This X6 is not stock. It doesn’t have spring bypasses, it does have the stock driver and emitter, but upon opening it up I find that I had stacked an R120 resistor on top of each R140. So that’s why it’s making the higher power.
Sorry about that, I have no memory of doing that at all, but the proof is there even though everything else is stock.
So, that’s actually good as it means the D80 in this group buy actually outperforms a modified X6.
Again, sorry. I sure thought I was keeping that one stock for comparison purposes.
The 150 lumen output difference would be hardly noticeable in the 1000+ lumen range. The human eye just isn’t that sensitive. So, the question for you is this: how do you plan on using the flashlight? If it is for short bursts of 15 minutes or less, like me, then choose the higher output cell (30Q). If you need longer run times, then choose the higher capacity cell (18650B).
As to protected versus unprotected, I’m not sure if the D80 has a low voltage protection circuit. DB or Kronos or someone else will have to chime in on that one. If you’re careful about battery maintenance practices, then this would be a non-issue.
Haha! You’re right! I was wondering what difference the beams had between each other. And what the smo would look like because the only smo I have is my 2d mag if that counts as smo….
Hi,
I’m new of the world of led flashlights. I received my first, an Olight S15 a week ago and have a BLF A6 and Lumintop Tool on the way. I have also ordered Fenix E12’s for the kids.
My question is how similar is the D80 to the A6? Would I be looking at duplicate characteristics if I order both? Having never seen the A6 yet, I suspect I might want more throw. Does the D80 have more throw than the A6?
My use will be on my farm, checking on cows, looking for coyotes, hunting, etc.
Thank you for telling me where this light “fits in”.

Just remember that video is X6 vs D80 NOT A6. The difference from A6 is pretty dramatic since D80 has that center hot spot and A6 is a flooder with spread out light, you can see much further with a D80.
All of the lights that you have mentioned have different characteristics.
BLF D80 (this group buy) - Very good light, powerful, comfortable, and throws very well for a light in it's size category. Must have in my opinion
BLF A6 or Astrolux S1 - A tube light meant for all around usage and tasks. It's power will light a big area up with no question but definitely cannot throw like D80, and was not meant to.
X6 - Many people confuse the designation with the A6 BUT not the same at all. It is more like the D80. This light has a head with a shape and feel of a Mag-Lite.
In my opinion, since you have a farm and kids (you did not mention their ages)....you need at least one of each. This forum's name begins with the word "Budget" for a reason. What you would spend on all three lights is still less that you would spend on one Mag-lite ;)
The Yezl is a nice light, no doubt, albeit considerably larger than those already mentioned and taking a 26650 cell. But it really needs modding to come into it’s own, not all that potent in stock form.
