GB BLF LuckySun D80-SE Need long tubes? -3/3/16

Got both of mine today, love them. Thanks to everyone who was involved in this! I got one in 1a, and the other in 3c. Now I’ve got to decide which one I want to keep - Other will be going as a gift.

How noticeable was the PWM in that? (Not that I’m whining about it, it doesn’t bother me under normal circumstances. Just curious…)

Edit: Also, x2 on the cool pic, J-Dub.

Thanks! Here’s another angle when it was coming down even harder. LBH (Little Big Head) is a new favorite. I intentionally captured a bit of that big little head in this shot. I don’t care if it has a little PWM at low levels. This little guy is meant to run high!

the vote is 1 - 0 for best stock light ever below $25.
best looking light. really throws and is small and light.
a few minor issues but for the price ? no complaints.
really does what a lot of bigger lights can do.
a masterpiece of design. the best looking light ever made.

Glad to know it is performing as expected, normally I would swap for an XP-L HI and fet driver to achieve maximum throw but stock as is seems like more than enough.

What would be the best protected battery for this light? I ordered unprotected Samsung which will be OK for showing off to the uneducated non flashlight people but for daily use I’d be interested in a protected cell. I just know my kids are going to be trying to get a hold of it with their thieving little hands. lol

Fingers crossed for a delivery of tomorrow. Fast shipping ordered but like many things living in Alaska means it still takes +1/2 days more to get here. :~

Just a protected Panasonic B or Sanyo 26F should be more than adequate.

Got mine today, ordered on the 16th. That was fast, Gearbest was on point on this one, I wish they would be like this for all the orders. Neatly packed with factory box, not the usual crushed white box  .
Comparison shot with the other BLF lights

About the protected battery issues others have encountered, my Keepower 2600 fits just fine.

Now about the PWM issue, in some medium modes it is visible. It does not matter to me, I will be putting a BLF FET+1 driver in it anyway because I don’t like the descending order of the modes and I want more power. Obviously you can’t please everybody. The X6 modded with the BLF driver on the left. It really looks worse than it is, my phone camera picks up PWM very good.

Overall great light and congratulations to all involved.

P.S. Remember to tighten all threaded parts (tailcap and head) and to properly clean/lubricate the threads. It might prevent some issues some are having.

I missed that there was a question in there. The was no noticeable PWM whatsoever. It was on high. This one on high is running full out so there is no chance of PWM. It is only noticeable in lower modes and even then, only under certain conditions. When you factor in everything else about this light you’d be nuts not to call this one a winner. You’re getting a great performing little light that it very unique with excellent fit and finish for $20. I’m sorry I even added a comment on the PWM thing seeing how people latched onto that and started trashing this little beauty. If you’re a PWM snob just swap out the driver and you’re still coming out way ahead. Most people would never even notice it unless you point it out and show them how to detect it.

Actually I can’t say I entirely regret it as we did get Dale to say that he’s now going to pee on all of his flashlights as part of his standard testing procedure.

Yep. The same guy that threw a perfectly good light out the window....and I think he still has it. LOL

All kidding aside...as I have said several times..this D80 is a surprise type of light. Once you use and play with it you get hooked.

This GEarbest. Really makes me |(

I DO still have that X6, it’s my first triple X6 build and it works beautifully.

Still chuckling over Daniel raving on Gearbest getting the light to him in record time while his sig says they suck.

Yes, GB got the light to me fast, so why not pat them on the back for it? Maybe they learn something in the process, stranger things have happened. I don’t think they’re evil, just incompetent people in the wrong positions. They need a Neal or something.
I’ll change my sig come new year, I see it’s gotten all kinds of attention. I don’t want to cross the line or something…

I love the BAM when I first turn it on! That is why I had it made like that  I keep it by my bedside as an anti-intruder light. It will blind the snot out of someone unfortunate enough to come into my house un-invited. Might blind me…also…lol

As far as power, I don’t think you will get much, if any, extra power with a FET driver. If any, it will probably be very minor/unnoticeable. Resistors on this are ‘000’, so it is running pretty much flat-out! Maybe Dale or someone else with driver/mod experience can confirm this.

Nevertheless, I am thrilled that most everyone loves this little light like I do. I remember at first, some said…man that is ugly! I don’t know why I like shape so much…maybe because it looks like some of the larger, way more expensive lights that are out there. Also…it has a completely different look than the X6. I LIKE that. I like having choices on performance, and aesthetics. It is also so small, yet seems to fit the hand very nicely.

Glad you guys are enjoying it! More to come? Ideas?

Blessings,
kronos

Dropped a BLF A6 FET +1 from RMM into mine, slight improvement on high, but not much… I would say the stock driver nails it on high. I will take both to work tomorrow and check the amps with a clamp on ammeter, but visually there is not much difference on high…

Then I swapped out the emitter with a S2 2B XP-G2…. the hotspot is tighter, now I will have to compare with one of my C8’s set up the same way tonight….

Krono, hats off to you for this group buy, I think this is one underrated little light, thanks for finding it and bringing it to what you did, excellent light for a compact thrower!

Krono, now it’s time to make a BLF SE TRIPLE led pocket thrower (or wall of light/floodish) for not more of 30$.
This would be the apotheosis!!

Do you think this can be done for the next year?

+1

Sharpie, that is a change that Lucky Sun made on us during the process. They also changed the retaining rings. And the color of the wires. They did these little things and made the process a whole lot of fun for Kronological to track, I think he secretly loves being bludgeoned by Chinese Manufacturers! :stuck_out_tongue:

...and the led centering ring is labelled 'United Palight'

Well since you asked and since I lost my I3S AGAIN, what about a group buy on a nice 10440 light that disappears into your pocket and has these type of features:

  • Sensible mode order (Moon-Med-Turbo)
  • 3 or 4 modes with no blinkies unless well hidden
  • No mode memory and starts in the lowest mode every time
  • I wouldn’t care if it did or didn’t accept AAA
  • If not a twisty it would be nice to have a long press jump into turbo or maybe a quick double tap would be better to avoid activating turbo in your pocket
