GB BLF LuckySun D80-SE Need long tubes? -3/3/16

Mine's labeled EDC too, and the bit under the reflector also says United Palight :-)

Mine just arrived and sadly it doesn’t work :frowning:
Tried several fully charged protected cells in it and nothing, not a flash.
The cells are EVVA protected 10a high drains of 2 different varieties and a couple of other brand cheap ones.
The only thing I have noticed is that the switch sounds a bit ‘clunky’ to me compared to my other lights - may be nothing, but I did however notice it lol.
Update Krono suggested checking the retaining rings, which I have, they didn’t budge. I have been playing for an 20mins or so, and I do get a very quick flash (sometimes) when putting the tailcap on not screwing it on, just touching it together with the body, as soon as it’s screwed on even a little bit - nothing at all.
I have now tried a wire between the neg end of the battery and the body (without tailcap on) and it works then.
Problem sort of solved now - made a ring of thick copper wire as a spacer - works the - next step is to fit a smaller/shorter spring in the tailcap which may also help. Basically the batts were too long stopping a connection being made.

Thanks everyone for making this a very successful GB.

Reminder: The D80-SE Group Buy is still open to anyone interested. LuckySun produced a total of 1000 to meet demand, and there are still lights available in 1A & 3C tints. You do not have to be on the list to purchase lights left in these tints.

Group Buy code is: BLFD80CM

Thanks,
kronos
(Updated in OP)

My light has the same “issue” (not really an issue for me since I prefer unprotected batteries in this light) and a shorter tailcap spring isn’t going to help. The spring isn’t nearly strong enough to prevent the tailcap from fully tightening. There simply isn’t enough length in the battery tube to make contact. The solution is on the other end - the positive button on the driver. That’s the part to replace or modify in order to gain a bit of length. Or just leave your spacer in there and be happy.

…and thanks to you kronos for all your effort in this!

I only reserved one 3C on the GB, but sprang for a second one in 1A when it went public.

On a side note, it seems Gearbest is giving some priority to the group-buy. Both of my orders shipped within 24 h, a pleasant improvement on the typical 5-6 business days I have been getting.

That is good to hear…I hope you enjoy your lights

I received 4 and one for sure has this issue. Is the battery tube too short?

Using protected or unprotected cells?

I checked the Amps today on mine, one with a BLF A6 driver (out of a BLF A6, so not RMM’s nicer one), and one with the stock driver from this group buy.

Same 20R battery, charged and rested 30 minutes at least before checking. Amprobe clamp-on ammeter, 12 ga multistrand copper wire 5” long.

BLF A6 driver on high: 4.62A
D80 GB Driver on high: 4.58A

Not much difference at all, maybe in the way I held the wire? This was after 30 seconds of on time, the BLF A6 driver steps down around 45 seconds….

Krono, great job on this!

I wonder if there is a way to take the memory off the driver I tried the pencil on the capacitor trick, seemed to move it into a next mode memory. Thankfully the pencil had an eraser…

Here are a couple of beamshot comparison pics…

Left=BLF D80 3C Center=BLF D80 with BLF A6 driver, and XPG2 S2 2B Right= C8 with RMM BLF A6 driver and XPG2 S2 2B

As always, the tints are off in the pics, the 3C is not that yellow…

Lightsaber pic, same order as above…

A slightly tighter beam can be had from an XPG2 or XPL HI, but not C8 intense. A bit easier to carry than a C8 though…

Nice to hear there are still lots of 1A and 3C stocks available for everyone to buy. Any updates on the availability of the 5A tint versions? I am not in a rush but just curious.

Advanced Happy New Year to all!

Krono,

Thank you for putting this buy together.

2 lights delivered today. Very happy Strayz….

had some issues with one of the lights, running them for 30 minutes on low then will go to high. Wow these are Tiny, and well made. They are also BRIGHT! will test for throwing shortly… heh…

ReManG, thanks for the good, informative pics.

Any day now on the 5A tint versions!

It doesn't work using protected cells or ones that i soldered a button top.

Using the shorter unprotected and it works fine

Thanks Krono!

I’m still waiting on mine……
and I’m so impatient, like a little kid waiting all night for Santa Klaus to show up.

IB tracking is the worst, even worse than the typical chinese ebay tracking. I don’t think mine has even hit the states yet since USPS isn’t showing anything yet besides pre-shipment info sent to USPS.

edit: I think this is how IB Shipping delivers.

What is worse? Sending something to China USPS!

Ordered ASAP but no sign of a new flashlight yet. Aussie post are very busy cause they were constrained by all the customs and border patrol activities trying to find drugs on their way into the country. Almost new year here. Just a couple of hours to go. But no more postal deliveries until tuesday.

Omg I found a notice shoved to the back of my mail box for me to pick up registered parcel at the USPS. Is it my light?? The suspense is killing me! I’m sending my wife to pick it up when they open since she said she is going crazy being stuck at the house with the kids and we live 30 miles from the post office. The notice was dated the 26th. At first I was thinking great, I’m being served papers, but then realized that would probably be certified, not registered.

Edit: no luck, it was the thorfire pen light for me to review.
