GB BLF LuckySun D80-SE Need long tubes? -3/3/16

Got mine yesterday…but no batteries! Just coming home from a 9 month contract and not unpacked. :_(

So I tested my lights last night with protected cells. No go. :_( I’ll have to do some homework. Two of the three I bought are for non-flashaholics. I am not at all disappointed in this light for myself but I am a bit disappointed that it doesn’t have low voltage cutoff and that protected cells are an issue. That’s two strikes against this being noob usable. I’m not giving them to kids or anything but I wanted at the very least, the comfort of knowing these guys would be using protected cells. I don’t have many protected cells to try so I’m hoping someone will find a good protected cells that works in this light. The only one I had on hand was an EVVA LG 18650MJ1 Protected 3500mAh from RMM and it’s too long. I can’t see many being shorter but I hope I’m wrong. Anyone had any luck with protected cells? They have to be high quality with trustworthy protection circuits. I buy my batteries almost exclusively from Mountain Electronics so I ’m hoping to find a battery that Richard carries.

I ordered one on Dec 21st, shipped same day, using the "Priority Direct Mail", sub-noted as "America Direct Express" that says 3-7 business days. So it's been about 7 business days now, and the tracking # assigned seems untrack-able (USPS, 17track.net). Hhmm...

Anyone else try this shipping method? Not listed on their site under shipping methods here: http://www.gearbest.com/about/shipping-methods.html

I thought - why not? shorter delivery time, cheaper than adding a tracking #, should be a better service.

So, at checkout it says 3-7 biz days, the shipping notification from GB says it's using "America Line (IB)" and also says 3-10 biz days, and this site: http://en.uuch.com/china-america-line says 4-10 biz days.

3-7 days when you order it, told 3-10 days when shipped Frown.

Tom,

I’ve ordered stuff using IB from GB before and it takes about 2 weeks to Florida.

It will end up coming by USPS once it hits the states - Track on the IB site:

Here’s an example of what I got yesterday:

I’ve had good shipping times with “America Direct”. But 3-7 business day is an impossible time, I have received my orders very consistently between 2-3 weeks. And the packages seem to be less beat up than when using other methods.

I wouldn’t call it quick but certainly better than other options taking up to 2 months to deliver, and having to open a ticket for every single order.

Ahh! Found the IB tracking site here: http://www.myib.com, so mine came into Kentucky today. Never used this service before, interesting. My Brinyte B158 was shipped Dec 10th regular (no tracking) and still not here, but mostly GearBest has been in the 3 weeks or so range. BangGood seems consistently faster, also shipped regular, no tracking.

My protected XTARs work perfectly. For others that have had success with different protected brands, please post them here and I will try to compile a list of protected batteries that work.

I do not have my BLF D80's yet but on my stock version the regular protected green Panasonic 18650B works just fine as do the protected Samsung 26F's. I cannot see that they would have changed anything.

I got today this FL (I’m from Slovenia, EU) and it is working great with unprotected samsung 30q.
Just one question: does this FL have over discharge protection?
Thank you

The flashlight does not have a low voltage cutoff or warning function.

Be careful not to run the battery dry.

Svetilka nima nizkonapetostni cutoff ali opozorilno funkcijo.

Bodite previdni, da ne teče baterije prenizka.

OK. Mine was delivered today after languishing in the USPS system for a week.

My EVVA 18650 protected cells do not work; they are a tad too long. (these cells) They mike out at an OAL of 69.1 mm.

However the same Panasonic cell in an unprotected version with button top fit and work fine. They mike out at an OAL of 66.8 mm. I’ll likely just add a wire in the cap. Now I have to be patient and wait till nightfall to check out the beam.

I am happy. Thanks for the opportunity to make the buy.

? Perhaps some of the protected cells use a slightly thinner circuit board?

I don’t have any of those. Do you have a reliable US source to recommend? Would you mind taking a calipers to that cell and posting the measurement? I typically buy my batteries from RMM. A list would be very helpful. Thanks Kronos.

The new design must have changed something. At 70.5mm, the protected Panny B’s are one of the longest 18650s according to HKJ’s measurements.

Forward click with momentary-on turbo? And disappears, yeah into those holes that seem to spontaneously appear in the front pockets of any jeans I wear (pocket dimension /epic bag of unholding).

If they changed anything I do not know yet. The 18650B's are some of the longest but EVVA's are slightly thicker due to the heavy shrink wrap and they are slightly longer than the typical protected 18650B.

For those that are ordering new cells, unprotected Samsung Q30 from RMM are good cells to have. Very good price and make this light stand out as a pocket rocket.

My Sanyo 2600 18650 protected cells do not work; too long. 69.5mm
Sanyo UR18650FM 2600mAh Gold Plating Protected Li-ion Battery
However the Sony VTC5 with button top fit and work fine.

Kozy reports that his protected Samsung 2600mah cell doesn’t fit either. (I don’t know whether it is a 26D or 26F. But either way, I believe that they have the same dimensions.)

So, apparently something must have changed. :quest:

Krono, I know this is the exact opposite of what you asked for, but in case it would also be helpful to know what doesn’t work, the two cells of mine that are too long to work in this light are the Thrunite 3400mAh, flat top, protected cells and the Efest 3400mAh, button topped, protected cells.
