Grizzly's Jetbeam RRT01 2020 / V3 Review – Now THIS is Rotary

Tl;Dr: The UI and switches are excellent and the whole point of this light. The smooth, stepless dimming through the knob is fantastic and I don’t know of any other light that matches it. It will run on a huge variety of batteries too. The clip and beam are great. Build quality, brightness and throw are good. Runtime and ergonomics are fair. Regulation and voltage immunity are poor (on li-ion batteries). It continues to be the go-to rotary EDC light.

great review! Congrats on your Stepless Magnetic Rotary!

Im a big fan of the RRT-01 line, especially the 2011 and 2012 versions, as well as the Titanium model, called TCR-1. This one was modded to sw45k by CRX.. it is my Grail light

Parasitic Drain: 26 microamps with the ring in the off position.
I typically leave the tailswitch “on” and use the ring to turn it on and off.

you got a driver with good specs in that regard.. so you have the option to leave the tailswitch on.. I like that feature. The early models had no tailswitch at all.. otoh the tailswitch allows to turn the light off and back on at the last used output, serves as a form of last mode memory.

occasionally they ship a light whose driver has high parasitic drain, that requires using the tailswitch to turn off, otherwise it will drain the battery in a few days, even with the dial all the way in the off position

Sometimes you have to kickstart it by ramping to a higher brightness, then back down.

that is a shame.. some of the drivers have that flaw.. if you get one of the good drivers, it will ramp up consistently from the lowest output.. I really like that feature

I can see some flickering at extremely low brightness levels.

unfortunately all the 2019 and 2020 drivers do this, I was very disappointed by that.. the earlier 2011 and 2012 drivers dont have that flicker, but they are NLA

The rotary ring is comfortable to turn in a forward grip, but the clip partially blocks it in the shortest configuration.

there is an alternate clip, that is shorter and does not reach the ring.. it can be ordered from Jetbeam

My 219C sample is 80CRI, 4000K, with ~0.0050 DUV. A Nichia 519A LED would be a nice improvement, but I’m pretty happy with this 219C. The LED is set in an orange peel reflector.

I was disappointed by the low CRI nichia.. I wish they had used one of the High CRI ones.. but the light makes a good modding candidate.. fwiw the Cree LED version comes with a smooth reflector, imo the OP reflector is more desireable

btw, the hole in the control ring works really well to add a little Nyogel if desired.. it gives a really smooth feel and will help stabilize the ring to hold its position (some rings arrive a bit gritty and loose).

Doesn’t seem like this model is offered for sale anymore unfortunately

true
it is from 2012..
only chance of finding one would be a WTB ad..

they are rare as hen’s teeth, and more expensive
