absolutely amazed at this latest news! Exciting. BUT I sure don’t see the price at $17 anymore! This will be a great opportunity for all the non modders to get a custom light at a great price.

I’m glad we were able to get 3.5A, but that’s a shame about the timed stepdown. I hope we will see a moonlight/firefly mode in addition to 3 main modes (4 mode total).
+1! in the next update would be nice to know something about the logo and the types of modes and …. the price? It is possible that if the price is good want some more unit, that the factory know the better the price, more units will sell :bigsmile:
I plan to use these lights for work. With that said momentary is used often (at least by me). Turbo may be good but as mentioned if it steps down it would be better that it did not step down to less than 80%.
Based on what people (including myself) are asking, is this configuration even possible (considering I am a novice and honestly do not know)?
Modes:
-Turbo 100%
-High 80%
-Medium 50%
-Low 25%
-Moon 5%
-Hidden strobe
Components:
-Copper
-Forward clicky switch (for me me me LOL…even if additional optional tailcaps because I know my co-workers will not mod plus it would be a cool to allow a giftee the choice)
-AR glass
-No glue

Bugsy, 5% is nothing near moon. That is what low should be. If they are doing a turbo then more than 3 is definitely needed! Something like this might be better:
Turbo - 100%
High - 75%
Medium - 25%
Low - 5%
Moon - 1% (or less)

There is almost no difference from 100 to 80, medium mode should be no more than 50, 80% would be the step down level. You would not want an 80% then a 100% level, you almost wouldn’t be able to see the mode change.
Also if they do a turbo step-down it would be great if it could ramp down to 80% instead of take a single step, again the difference from 100% to 80% is so small that if it was done in a ramp down you really wouldn’t even be able to see it had happened, that’s about the one turbo timer I would be ok with.

I was also sceptic with the timer but I used it(Star firmware) two times now and I am amazed with it. It adds a big benefit to a light with no problems, if it is hot it reduces current so it’s a safety feature.
I modified the star momentary firmware so that it ramps down two modes after some time and it’s awesome you don’t even see it without a luxmeter…
I see no disadvantage for this if done correctly.
I also have no problems with the cycle thing cereal mentioned, If mode order is H-L than you have to cycle but if you have L-H it steps down and with one click to turbo again…
Copper board is good, at 3.5A a dielectric layer makes no difference.
But I also have no problems to mod this by myself with a better star or a modified stock star and resistormod so this doesn’t really matter for me.

If a turbo timer is done properly, it is nearly unnoticeable, allows the elimination of high mode, and makes the UI simpler. Ramp down from 3.5A to, say, 2.4A is something you won't notice.

After ramp down, a proper turbo returns back to turbo level with one click, no matter what mode order is used. Please make sure it's implemented that way.
My suggestion for modes is: LowLow (0.2%), Low (2%), Med (25%), Turbo (100% = 3.5A -> step down to 60% = 2.1A)

Neil mentioned that turbo stepdown would be to 2 amps (OP updated). Is that approx. 57%?
Not trying to sound stupid but what kind of output can be expected at 57%?
According to algorithm, its about 75% brightness perceived by our eyes ? (compare to 100% which is turbo) I don’t think much different, except heat wise.
I have few torch medium at 40, felt not much different (will can detected by eyes, but not obvious) so 57/60 are still good in my opinion. Ramping is one solution I agree to reduce obvious changes.
Suggestion (Approx)
Moonlight: <1%
Low : 5-8% (80 - 150 lumen)
Medium : 20-25% (350-400 Lumen)
High : 55-75% (750-950 lumen)
Turbo : 100% (1100-1200 lumen)
