Hah! I received in the mail from AliExpress a package of N cell NiMHs today and as a result had to look more closely at my charger. I realize what the issue was that was causing my confusion - when I upgraded the firmware, the unit changed from “Professional” mode to “Normal” mode!
Opened the manual, changed it back to “Professional” mode, and now I have saved as program #27 a break-in cycle for 700 Ah NiMHs. Will of course create more programs as I do common tasks like recharging AAs etc.
I’m not off to a good start though. The Radio Shack adapters I bought for N cell to AA don’t fit these cells, I have to use the magnets to get them to fit the charger. I hope that doesn’t mean that they also won’t fit in my HP 28C which is the whole reason that I ordered them.
Edit: I will be interested to see what the actual capacity of these N cells is. Obviously I only resorted to AliExpress because I couldn’t find any N cells from Eneloop, Ikea, Duracell, etc.
I think what Tim is saying there is that in Sept 2025 he received an early production version of the new version with longer sliders and that that new version is almost identical to the first versions except for the longer sliders.
In January 2026 I got the present version with the longer sliders and it says it is HW 3.0.0.
Can someone explain to me how to use a program already in the unit? I’m in professional mode, let’s just say I want to use preset one in slot one. I long press 1, then hit enter to edit which preset, then use the arrows to select the one I want, then… What? Either Setup or Enter takes me back to the main menu but discards my changes.
I’m sorry if this is a dumb question but I’m seriously pulling my hair out because I used this thing to break in some N cell NiMHs and now I need to charge some 18650s and I’m rapidly losing patience.
It does, from the main screen. But while in the slot programming view, it just confirms the settings. Whether it starts the program afterwards depends on the autostart configuration.
THX… I still, after having the charger for a couple of years, get that one confused. But I sure thought that the push and hold was required to make it start the charge cycle…
In addition to the method introduced in SammysHP, you can also use Quick Operation to conveniently access programs 0–9 in both Normal mode and Professional mode.
This was for the s800 . I bought this about 18 months ago or so. I returned it immediately. The charge rates in several of the slots were totally inaccurate from the specs. You pick four times two amps. I would get one maybe , Two,@2a.
The other two would be anywhere from a half amp to 1 amp or so. It happened numerous times and I returned it.
