I’m no expert on drivers on flashlight modding, but I’m going to try and mod one of my EE X6 so I’d like to get some opinions from the pros here on mode choices. It will be a triple XP-L V6 3C on copper sink from Nitro. Driver will be the A17DD.
Here are the choices I was offered:
ML,15%,30,60,100
or
2%,15,50,75,100
or
Guppydrv
or
ML,25,50,100,60 turbo
or
ML,25,50,100
or
25%,50,100, 120sec turbo
I kind of like the idea of this Dr Jones Guppydrv. With this I can change between different mode groups just with button clicks? Is this is a good choice?
My concern with the Guppydrv the closest mode to 100% is only 40% (info from a post from Richard / RMM in This thread) I’m thinking I would want something a little closer to 100% (like 60% / 75%) so I could have the option to run at near full brightness with a little less drain. Also not sure if I should get the step down timer from turbo or not?
i go to RMM web site in the search box i click Attiny13 and click on the attiny13 MCU and from Richards drop down box u can see all his Firmwares ect............
Go to the drivers tab. Find one you like and click through. In the listing, it will include options for firmware. If Guppydrv is an option, it will be listed, and a description of it will be in the listing, down the page. It shows the mode groups for both version one and version two there.
Yeah, Richard doesn’t carry any A17DD. The one you linked here is Richard’s own version of a “direct drive” 17mm driver. But, it should work fine for you, I think, with the Guppydrv firmware. And remember, if the mode order you select doesn’t end up pleasing you, it is user configurable to another mode group without flashing the driver. All those mode groups listed come programmed into the firmware, and can be changed on a whim by the user. You should note, however, that the driver is out of stock, because Richard and his family are soon to be moving. The custom drivers should be re-instated once they are all settled into their new home.
