Home Depot Deal Alerts & Discussion Thread

LOL,

So use em indoors?
(I plan to mount the stake ones on a base to use indoors)

I goofed on the original price on that 30 piece bit set. There is a 29 piece Black Oxide drill bit set in the stores for $29.97 just like it.

This 30 piece Titanium coated set is brought out just for Black Friday at $9.88. “That was a special buy price” All the store had them then. Here is the BF as clip

and the HD page listing it for $8.00

They are available at some stores for the $8.00 I just paid. HomeDepot.com will let you check for stock

I bought a few of those kaladascope bulbs about a week about for about 5$ the kids love them and use them as night lights in their rooms.

Those 'rough service' led lamps are pretty good; the best thing about them is they are silent (usually cheap lamps are noisy and that is sometimes a problem). I expected to see some flicker but actually I can't see any flicker, and when shut off they dim down like an incandescent so they must have good smoothing. They are nearly as efficient as the Phillips basic bulbs (93.3 lpw), On the downside they have a weird yellowish tint and seem to have low CRI. The rated life is equal to CFL. Also not suitable for damp locations. So list of pros and cons:

Pros

  • Silent
  • No flicker
  • Efficient (93.33 lumens per watt, almost as efficient as Phillips basic bulb)
  • Lightweight (about the same as an incandescent bulb)

Cons

  • Poor light quality & slight yellowish tint (low CRI I think)
  • Not suitable for damp locations
  • Not very long life (equivalent to CFL)

How well do you think they will do in the really cold temps? I have a patio light that eats everything in about 3-5 months.

No idea but the package says it’s not for use in temperatures below 0˚F. But I would think LED lamps would last longer in cold temperatures.

I got a pack of 24 lamps
It was easy enough; that store had them right near the front with a big sign of the price which also mentioned 42¢ per lamp
Another store had a large pile of those boxes

Nice score.

I’m thing those 24 packs will go to a penny in about a week. Here is my reasoning.

I do know that the date of 09/26/16 has started to go around here.
I got these yesterday for a penny.

The dates on these 2 items is 09/26/16

Knowing that 09/26/16 is a penny date I looked for these nail guns, because I had already bought one at the 3 price of $15.03

It’s date is also 09/26/16, so by now they should also be a penny.

Yesterday I found 1, and yes, it was a penny.

Now as far as the 24 packs of light bulbs, around here their date is 10/3/16, so in about a week they too will be a penny.

I also got a couple of recovery straps (Snatch ropes)
These can come in very handy. They act like an elastic band somewhat and stretch under tension.
These are only 20 feet long and 7000lbs, but they can get the job done. For $6.33 it is a good idea to carry one around, just in case.
These can be dangerous, especially if it breaks. The snap could take someones head off!

I once snatched a medium size car with a compact car. The medium size car had slid off a curve going around a downhill curve and ended up on the other side of a snow bank. I borrowed a 250 foot!!! nylon tree felling rope from a landscaper. I hooked that 250 foot rope to both cars and drove up hill with the compact car. It was still snowing and very slippery, but I was able to reach 30 mph! When I hit the end of the rope, my car slowly came to a stop, then rolled back a little. When I looked back the car that had been over the snow bank was up and over and in the middle of the road. Everyone said it was a very gentle, powerful pull.

This was extremely dangerous should that rope had broken. I knew that and had everyone stand way, way clear.

Those big straps are still $24 here. But I did score a 4 pack of hdx brand 1000lb straps for 96 cents each. Also got some 600lb ratcheting straps for $2.96

Employee told me I missed out on a good deal by minutes. They put out some ratcheting straps for 56 cents for a 2 pack. She said one guy bought all 4 boxes of them on the spot.

Sorry for the blurry photo, I was juggling multiple boxes of the bulbs.

That says $4.85 per box. I got stopped by 2 other guys in the store asking me where they were. We all checked out right after one another and ended up clearing the store out of the last 15 or so boxes.

lol wow!

It looks like $4.90 to me.

Those lamps are weird. I thought the LEDs would be on the glass (chip-on-glass) with the phosphor resin over it, like the one in clive's video (» image) but actually, the LEDs are just LED filaments arranged in a square and attached to what is probably actually a plastic square.

Also, about the weird color, turns out the weird color comes from that probably-plastic square. I looked at it, and light coming out the top that goes through the square has the odd yellowish tint, while light not going through the square looks fine and white.

So yeah, these are just the plastic version of LED filament lamps. The LED square isn't a COB like the one clive tore down.

Anybody that bought these can get refunded the difference IF they can get to any store before they run out. Just bring your receipt or credit card.
HD is not fooling around with these, they want them gone! This is the 3rd markdown in just a couple of weeks.

I double checked the receipt. You are right, $4.90 a box.

Ok, so I heeded my own advice. Based on the info from others here on the rough service bulbs, this morning I printed out a bar code for those buckets of lights.

I brought it up to the self service checkout and confirmed that they were now $4.90.
Then I went through the store to find 1. They weren’t where they used to be, they moved them. There were only a few left, but that was OK, I only needed 1.

I brought it up to the Customer Service Desk and told them that I had bought a couple of these recently and the price had gone down. Then I asked them to please refund the difference to my card.
Remember, these were originally $19.90 each, I paid $9.90 each on clearance, and now I am returning them so that I can buy them back at $4.90 each. Here are the 2 slips. The one on the left is refunding my card for 2 buckets that I had bought at $9.90 each, and the second slip is me buying them back at $4.90 each.
All I needed was one of the buckets that was still on the floor for sale to prove they still had stock, and my credit card. A sales receipt would have worked too, but it is easier with just the card.

So I netted $10.64
On a hunch, I also printed out the UPC code for the 24 pack of LED bulbs that had dropped to $10.03

While I was there, I scanned it also at the self checkout.

OK, so they have gone to a penny, Now to find 1 somewhere.
Last week I saw 3 boxes of 24 on the top shelf of a clearance shelf. AND they were mismarked at $30.06, they should should been $10.03. That store is only 15 miles away, I needed to go there and check.
Long story short, using the UPC code to check for price, I found that that store was still at $10.03 AND the 3 boxes were GONE
I did leave the store happy though.
I finally found a box of Gorilla Nuts for a penny. There they were in plain sight in electrical.

And I came across this. These came out on Black Friday for $26.88, I paid $6.70. Milwaukee brand, frame “proudly made the the U.S.A.”

DCH what site do you use to print upc’s

I linked to this site earlier in this thread. I know this is an impossibly long thread and it is buried. Here it is again.

HD and most other US and Canadian stores use UPC-A, the default setting. Make sure you enter 12 digits.
After I generate the UPC, I visually check the first few bars and the last few, to make sure the correct UPC was generated.

Gotcha, thanks. I looked for it before and could not locate it.

I'll add a link to the above post in the OP.

Good idea!

As you read this, some may think I should be ashamed of myself. Maybe I should. But on Black Friday I spent over $2000 at Home Depot. I’m more ashamed of THAT than I am with what follows.

Here is another item worth looking for, a chance to score a really good deal.
For some time now, HD has had these 4000mAh “Pocket Juice” power banks. the price was $14.97 and they can be found in electrical with all the CenTECH CE Tech (thanks poiihy) branded electronics and connectors.

On Black Friday, they brought out a separate and special display of these and put it on the floor with all the other special BF offerings. There was special pricing of those at $9.88, a nice price! I never got a shot of the display as most stores sold thru in the first day or 2! On BF I was in a HD with a friend late in the day and when he came across the display he bought the remaining 7 that were left. He knows I travel a lot and asked me to keep my eyes open for “as many as I can get”
They were scarce, it wasn’t until about 3 weeks ago that I finally found one and it rang up for $9.88.
Then 2 weeks ago I came across 2 more, but now they were on clearance priced at $7.50.

So I grabbed those 2 and went up to the customer service desk. I told them I bought 1 of these last week for $9.88 and now they are $7.50, and if they would please refund the difference to my card. As I explained earlier, what they actually do is give full credit for the original purchase, then allow you to buy it back at the sale price. So I did that and while I was at it, I bought the other 2. Now I have a total of 3, each costing me $7.50
Now, it REALLY gets interesting.
A couple of days ago I traveled north to an HD I thought might have the 24 packs of EcoSmart bulbs for a penny. I struck out on that, but I did find this.

WOW!
Now they are down to $4.90. Sooooooooooooo……. I brought the 4 that I found up to the Customer Service Desk and asked, well you already know
So now I have those 4, plus the 3 from before for a total of 7, all bought at $4.90 each.
Now here is a little secret. When I got those last 4, one of them rang up for $14.97. At first I couldn’t figure out what happened and why one was more. They looked IDENTICAL in every way, except for the UPC code.

The ONLY difference is the UPC code on the back

The one on the left rang up for $14.97, the one on the right, $4.90. Even so, the service desk gave it to me for the $4.90.
Now the best part!!!
Only another 5 miles to the next HD, just over the State line. So I go, still trying to score a 24 pack of light bulbs. I struck out on that, but I did fine 1 more Pocket Juice power bank. By now I know which UPC code is to “good” one.
I look for the numbers at the end, “551” and that lonely power bank had the good number!
Massachusetts stores have price scanners in their isles, so I walked it over to make sure it would scan at $4.90.
I was shocked!

$2.40!!!
So, I took that one over the Customer Service and told them recently  I had bought 7 of these at $4.90 and now they were $2.40 and would they……………………
They did.
And BTW it wasn’t until yesterday that I realized they forgot to charge me for the 8th one, I got that one free.

Today I was in my local HD and found a 9th one, it rang up for $2.40. It was mixed in with the regular stock of the ones that ring up for $14.97. Once again, they look identical, except for the UPC code.
I took pictures of each at the self checkout.
$14.97 “4K POCKERJUI”

$2.40 “BF 4000 MAH” (I take it “BF” stands for Black Friday)

In a very short while these will be pulled and marked at a penny.
Look for them, there will be some because they are hard for the MET team to spot and pull.
