Home Depot Deal Alerts & Discussion Thread

Well, I was skeptical at first but I’m a believer now. I just made this haul between 2 stores. One store had stuff at a penny appropriately. The other seemed to be far behind dropping the price.

Got 8 packs of 22 piece tool set. They were in a buggy by the front door. $0.01 each

7 packs of 60 watt bulbs $0.01 each

4 packs of 50 watt bulbs $0.01 each

10 packs of 25 watt bulbs $0.01 each

6 light switches $0.01 each

An air die grinder, air cut off tool, and 3 piece tool set with sae and metric hex and torx. $2.52 each. I may go back for more

I only took a pic of a couple of the receipts

The second store I went too was kind of a bust. Lots of $X.X3 priced items still ringing up for sticker price. They are closing out all of the rainbird irrigation products and I needs an irrigation system but they all rang up for the sticker price. Seems like it should be $0.01

Figured out what was wrong. The LED’s anode and thermal pad (Non-DTP board) were connected!

I almost got the reflector to seat in my SL-3 (lost the reflector), that would of made it totally worth it…

Finally! More and more people able to duplicate the penny deals.

To all BLF’ers all I can say is. I have done it, others have done it and you can do it too!

Dchomak, what’s up with the item with a $17.03 price and a sticker date of 8-28-2014 still ringing up for $17.03???

Must be a store that gives the customers a chance before throwing them out.

I would have to say your 22 piece Home Tool Set for a penny blows away my 5 piece Home Tool Set for $1.80 at Lowes!

Even though the price says $3.60, they rang up for $1.80

Notice how similar the tools in each look. They could come from the same manufacturer.

I’m hoping around 3-1-2015 they will be dropped down. There were quite a few items that ended in 3 with a date from the end of August 2014 that rand up for the sticker price. I wonder if that store waits 6 months to drop some items down. I actually saw several stickers for 1 penny at a stationary employee help computer in the electrical section. Nobody was around and I kinda took a peak but I was unfortunately unable to locate the items in the store.

I was in an HD today looking for stuff and found a price sticker cart with some items on it marked for a penny, unfortunately, there was a clerk there scanning and pulling the penny items off the shelf.

It was door latches and a screen door handle.

I saw the same items. They should have been a penny but still rang up for sticker price

The date of 8-28-2014 needs a little more time. The “6” to “3” prices take months to change.

Recently I noticed that there seems to be another code in the clearance prices. In this case the clearance price ends with a “4” as in the case with the Ridgid battery pack when it went from 49.00 to 35.04. That price occurred on 2/4/15. Exactly 2 weeks later, 14 days, on 2/18/15 it was reduced to 18.02. The Ryobi pack followed those same dates and went from 75.00 to 50.04 on 2/4/18 and then on 2/18/15 to 25.02

So is the date on the sticker the original clearance date or when it was last discounted? What is the total time it usually takes to get to a penny? I gather it’s 6 months from 6 to 3 and 3 weeks from 3 to penny. This correct? Only reason I ask is the light bulbs have a date of 12-9-2014 and were a penny, so I’d assume the date is from the last price change. But the rainbird irrigation stuff all ends in a 3 on clearance with a date a little over 5 months ago and it’s still at sticker price.

Northern Alabama. Florence to be exact. I actually have a one more set of batteries. I don’t know anything about shipping batteries, or if it would even be worth it to ship them… but if you really want a set I will sell them to you for cost (like 55 after tax) + shipping cost.

After shipping they’d be like $70. I’ll just hold off. Thanks for the offer though. The nicd batteries will be discounted more soon.

All I can say is that some of the stuff you got I wouldn’t have expected to be a penny. Now I have to check my Home Depot for some of those items  Getting this bargains for a penny is not an exact science and there is an element of luck and persistence.

Really, Really Frustrating.

Based on the success n10sivern I went to HD with the express intent to search out his scores. The first thing I came across was this a 32 piece Home Tool Set that looks exactly like the 22 piece set that went for a penny. The only difference is the addition of 10 bits in the upper left hand corner on the package. Of course it scans at 9.88, not a penny.

The 22 piece penny set

Then I made my way over to the lights. I found loads of the 50W equiv spot light that he got for a penny, so I grabbed a tray to take up to scan.

When I got to the self checkout, they were closed!

I did reach over the gate to price check it though and sure enough it scanned for a penny.

Can’t pay a penny with no self checkout, so I headed back to the lights to put it back.
But when I got there I saw this! The price change guy and his cart of death, the hearse that takes penny deals and carries them away to their final fate.
There is a tray missing, I have it in my hand as I took this picture.

So what to do? I can tell you I did NOT put that tray back were I got it, I put it on another clearance table instead.

I went back again today at the end of the day and yes all those penny light were gone. Snatched by the grim reaper.

Checked on the tray of bulbs I had snatched just before he got there and they are still there  , problem is though, the self checkout lanes are still closed!

I also looked for the lighted heavy duty 3 way switch that he scored. All I could find was the one on display. Clearance price said 18.00.

Just then the electrical guy came over and asked if I needed help. I said I was looking for that item and he scanned it. I noticed his scanner came up with a price of 0.01 and he said no, they are all gone.
Oh well.

That blows they had the self check out closed.

I will say, the deals are out there. I told my brother about it and he picked up 2 vanity light fixtures for a penny today at his local HD

I managed to grab one of the lighted switches (it was mixed into the box next to the empty hole) and found another of the fire night lights.

got 2 of these flexible lights, but only a penny each. This picture is from 2 weeks ago in VA. They have since gone to a penny and found 2 stragglers locally.

This is what the display looked like, the price tag was for 5.04 but I knew better. They were 2.52 2 weeks ago, so I figured there was a good chance they would ring up for a penny. And they did

I got caught at the checkout and AFTER I had paid and gotten my receipt I was marched up to the head cashier. This has happened before, so I was ready! The head cashier scanned them and sure enough they came up a penny, then she turns to me and said that “today must be your lucky day”. She continued with “we now show –2 in stock”. I picked right up on that and said “then everyone’s happy, I get 2 lights for a penny each and HD gets to sell 2 lights they didn’t have” We all laughed and I started to leave. The head cashier called out to me that I should come back again soon. I replied that yes, I will be coming right back in after I put these 2 lights in the car.
(what she didn’t know was that the reason I was coming right back in was because there was 1 more penny item that I had to buy)
The other penny item was another one of the 106 quart clear containers that I scored for 4.54, then later for 2.52. I found 1 more and at this late date I knew it would scan for a penny. I grabbed that and went for the self checkout. At that point I was met by all 4 cashiers! The word was out about me and they wanted to see the d-cho-mojo in action
This time the head cashier scanned it for me and YES it was a penny. To impress the ladies even further, I paid with a $5 bill.
2 of them wrote their names on my receipt, not for what you think, but for me to use when I go online and give them a good review. Like I said EVERYONE is happy.

BTW, getting stuff for a penny is great, but to actually get a flashlight for a penny, well that just seems more appropriate for this forum.

Good point checking for strays mixed in with other stock. I do that all the time with good results usually. Didn’t work on the heavy duty 3-way lighted switch, but it sure worked on the fire alarm lights. I now have 28 of them
