I tried three lights, to replace a couple of old, failing, halogen fixtures.
The first was a Commercial Electric 1008 992 427, and I thought it was worse than the Defiants. I would not buy it again. I think the sensor was significantly less reliable. It may have had a problem with false-positives as well. I don’t think it’s worth trying.
Next were two Defiants
317 526 607
1009 195 267
I’ve read positive recommendations for RAB as well, but I haven’t tried them. They were more expensive, and had some negative reviews mixed in.
I’m not crazy about the color temperature on the Defiant 317 526 607. But the sensor seems to be very good. I got it adjusted to maybe +/- 5ft precision, and I think it’s about as good as I could expect.
If I could change anything, I’d make them adjustable brightness + temp (I think one does have adjustable brightness). I just put a warm filter over the lenses from Boaz here on BLF.
I’ve had them for 4 months, they’ve been good. I’d consider them an 8/10, or the current standard to beat.
They probably aren’t the best, or perfect, but I think they’re a pretty decent place to start comparing others to. Hopefully they hold up to the elements.
