I need an easy to work non flashy EDC (AA) High only or High/Low with an easy to find switch for presents.

To BLF member THE or whatever it is.

By looking at your collection you obviously have been around lights like I have only all of my other lights are big guns and expensive ones down to the little ones but still from reputable manufacturers.

All I am saying is be careful what you say as “TACTICOOL” still sounds to me like a sarcastic remark in my book and most others I am sure.

With your vast experience in the flashlight field you should know better after probably sending a lot of replies to other members that words can hurt or be taken the wrong way.

I still think it was a put-down by you but maybe you are too big in this field to humbly admit that what you stated in your reply could be sarcastic and probably a put-down to a new member that you thought knew nothing much about the flashlight field or anything technical.

I have had a love and used a lot of flashlights in my trades, flashlights are a necessity to get light into places without intrusion around live production stages and TV studios especially and crawling over big multi purpose theatrical buildings doing maintenance or crawling under desks doing IT work.

As far as optics are concerned I learned a lot about that field when I earned a University Degree in photography while I was a a photographic enthusiast and developed a business taking photos specialising in low light situations like live stage productions and also fast shutter stuff like sports.

I did it with a mate of mine using old time film and slide film in black and white for special purposes to convey a theme or colour using the best Canon gear and processing using Fuji equipment at that time before we changed to Digital Technology which was easy because we had done it the hard way before.

Yes we used light meters and manual settings and had to understand aparture settings, depth of field etc, medium format cameras and large format cameras for special situations that only the resolution of a large format old style film camera could give when the shot needs to be blown up for magazine use etc.

So the new boy on the block member you replied to has credentials in electricity, electronics, Information Technolgy accredited, Stage Lighting Supervisor, Photography enthusiast with my own backyard lab with the best Canon cameras and lenses that money could buy and also my vast knowledge of forums and the possible comments that can easily be taken the wrong way.

Please put your view online to me if you think I was being hard or hurting your feelings as that was not my intention.

Between you and I we should be able to help other BLF members who are less informed about these subjects as we were years ago or because they are young or just plain NEWBIES without witty careless remarks that may discourage them as that is the purpose of this Forum, isn’t it!

Good Night I am off to bed now after I had a brief sleep need recovery.

Cheers

As you said some people don’t like that CHEESY looking light.

Therefore people have their own judgements, minds and favourite styles of things.

People are all different.

Some people may not mind that TACTICOOL remark that may imply about whether or not my family and friends could like a Sipik 68 or not maybe because they were not COOL enough or did not know what a Tactical style flashlight was.

Either way we all have a responsibiity for the things we say and do even on Forums.

Good Night for real now!

Cheers to all decent BLFers.

Dude, Sparky…you need to calm down bro.

Saying that a particular light might be perceived as being “tacticool” simply means that the flashlight might look a little mall-ninja to some, and that could potentially be a turn-off to a recipient of said flashlight.

So true!

the seems in my opinion to be very nice and helpful! Many people have used that same line around BLF to describe the sk68! I DEFINATELY dont think that he was being rude! Maybe CPF has tarnished your perception of humanity!

JUST ME 2 CENTS

My vote for the light you are looking for is a single mode clone SK68. I have given them to older members of my family and friends. Easy to operate and I am one of the ones that think they are COOL and carry one with me nearly every day.

that is all...

Sparky, I would suggest the NEW-515 that tecmo recently reviewed.

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/new-515-xp-e-r2-410lm-3-mode-white-flashlight-black-1-x-14500-1-x-aa-134473

I would also suggest you unbunch your panties and relax about the’s “tacticool” comment. Tacticool is a word used to describe lights that really aren’t tactical lights but try really hard to look like them. The SK-68 is one of those and they are not for everyone, hence they may be to “tacticool” for your family or friends. the is one of the most helpful and contributing members of this forum and was NOT trying to insult your family or friends.

You need to chill about it and are the one who owes the apology to him for over reacting to his comment and trying to make it a big deal. This is the Internet and on BLF we are, nearly to a man, only ever trying to be helpful and supportive. Thick skin is still a requirement as we all come from different nationalities and backgrounds and have slightly different standards as to what is offensive to ourselves and to others.

I am allowed to voice an opinion on a comment that I personally thought was sarcastic and was responding to what I thought was not a great comment to start my quest for what I was looking for.

I did not say anything about the Sipik 68, all I commented on was the wording at the end that did not sound pleasant to me and now I know by his BIG light collection that his EGO is just as BIG.

I will wait for some BLFer to make a jab at some other BLFers comment and I will probably wonder what he was worried about, but in saying “tacticool” I was offended by it and you can back him all you like, as a BLF member I have a right to say something about what I considered offensive and sarcastic at that time.

My time at CPF has not tarnished my perception of humanity at all, it just made me ready for idiots that make useless and possibly perceived as insulting to make my thoughts known to the Forum member that made the comment as soon as possible.

And as usual his supporters gather to protect him from the naughty newcomer to the Forum.

I look forward to a response from him and not just his supporters or is he afraid of the truth or being ridiculed in closed community like this forum.

Zoomies are a bit silly for what I need and I thought I said that somewhere on here, if not I want to make it bright and simple straight away without wondering where the state of zoom is at in a hurry.

I have made the situation quite clear, so there is no need for further discussion about it unless the member in question wants to respond to me.

Good Night and boy you guys are easily stirred up, so don’t talk about my reactions to comments when you BLF members take my comment to be so wrong so quickly.

Cheers and I mean no offence to you.

I like the 3x AAA lights at Costco for inexpensive gifts.
They are XP-G, 3-mode, and for about $5 each you can’t touch them.

You may wish to take your own advice, and not go looking for a fight where there is none.

Hi Sparky,

you are really being unfair to _the_ and BLF here. You make assumptions based on general internet behavior, which don't apply for most of BLF. I have yet to see another forum that treats beginners with the same level of respect as veteran members as BLF does. You will rarely get an advice like "use the search engine" here. We are pretty relaxed overall here, so some jokes might be taken the wrong way sometimes... but please give people the benefit of the doubt until you are absolutely sure that they are out of order. If you are not sure how something is meant... just ask. It's the polite thing to do... people might surprise you ... in a positive way.

On the topic... people with no flashlight background seem to enjoy single mode lights. So a Sipik SK68 and especially a Romisen G2 might be a good, inexpensive start. If you want 2 modes the Jetbeam BA10 and the Klarus P1A would also be good choices.

Hi Sparky,

First of all: My apologies. What I said was totally innocent, or at least meant to be such. I kind of understand that it can be seen as offensive and I'm very sorry if you were offended. I also understand that you might want to say bad things about me when offended, so: No hard feelings!

I was writing the post with iPad and didn't want to write long stories, hoping and knowing that someone else will add why Sipik could be good choice.

What makes Sipik so good for non-flashaholics, is:

- Works with (a single) AA -> readily available in every household
- One mode -> Easy for beginners
- Clicky -> Easy for beginners
- Bright (-er than most lights a non-flashaholic knows)
- Nice even flood (no too bright hotspot)
- Inexpensive (maybe too inexpensive for your taste, but I have gifted many of these - I guess I'm cheap :()

Only negative thing is that it looks tactical, without having any tactical purpose (= "tacticool"). This might turn off some people, hence the "unless it's too"-remark.

About the zoom: Default position is full flood, which is usable in 90% of the cases. If you need more throw, you can slide the head forward (easy to experiment, also for non-flashaholics).

I also gave one of these to my mother who is 65 years old. She likes the light and is also able to use the zoom. That works as a proof of concept, right? :)

To already suggested lights add Balder SE-1 (bright with li-ion, don’t know if it will be brighter than BA10/P1A with NiMh)

It is strange to me that in all of my years of posting on various lighting forums that I have never seen the word “tacticool” anywhere except here on BLF.

Who invented this so-called friendly and not sarcastic word?

How does anyone explain the term “tacticool” that I am so guilty of perceiving as a sarcastic remark that I have never seen before?

I will put that to the other forums as a thread and find out if it is just me that has never heard of it before or not.

Move on guys and get a life as I am not apologising for what I have stated in my comments as that is how I personally perceived it as possibly being.

If I had heard it before obviously I would not have taken offence to it and I stated that I was sorry for taking it that way if he was not trying to make me feel the way I did in my comments to THE earlier if you guys care to look at it.

Here is where I stated just that in post number 8 at the very start.

“If you were genuine with your advice I am sorry to say what I have stated in this reply”

Cheers and I am over this crap.

And THE, I am sorry because I thought you were having a cheap shot at me.

No hard feelings here because I have never heard that term used in a lighting forum.

Cheers to everybody!

Then why would you think it was a slight ?

You owe an apology for insulting and belittling the membership, not your mistaken perception. Be a man and step up.

I’m new, and Ive seen it referenced in other places, I don’t know Member:THE and it was clear to me that he was insulting the look of the flashlight. Do a google image search for Tacticool. It’s not some rare obscurity made by this forum. Simply applied to flashlights on this forum.

If anything he was giving you a heads up that the light looks gaudy and ridiculous for what it is (cooling fins an what not) so to be aware of that, when considering it as a gift (others may judgmental about the look).

I’m much more careless with my words than he was. These guys all seem welcoming and helpful to me. Welcome to the Internet indeed.

Oh and one more vote for the: Romisen RC-G2 from shining beam, but in Gray… I like the gray!
http://www.shiningbeam.com/servlet/the-112/Romisen-RC-dsh-G2-III-Cree/Detail

First question I have for you is who made you the spokesman for THE MEMBERSHIP?

I stated in Post No 8 and then I pointed THE MEMBERSHIP to Post No32 to look at where I said “I was sorry if he was genuine” right from the outset of my comments.

THE has sent his apologies to me and I apologise for the misunderstanding because I was thinking the comment from THE was POSSIBLY a dig at me and try making me look silly by me asking for something a newbie may ask at first and probably had no knowledge about technical things or flashlights.

After all of my years on lighting forums I have never heard the term “tacticool” used anywhere until I saw it here on BLF.

But in Post No 8 I said I would be sorry if he was prooved to be a genuine and sensible member and not a turkey that says things to get other members angry.

The comment was based on a conditional sorry if he was found to be a genuine helper on this forum.

Can we now get back to talking about my quest in this Forum?

The fighting has finished and the opponents are at the bar drinking together, the show is over so get back to what you were doing before.

We were talking about Lights that we dream of in our sleep.

Cheers

PS I just looked up what TACTICOOL means in the Dictionary and here it is.

1. tacticool

1.) A derisive term for cheap knockoff versions of real, high-end tactical firearm accessories such as red dot sights, holosights, flashlights, lasers and scopes. Such accessories are highly popular with Airsoft players, since they look cool, cost much less and don’t need to be reliable enough for them to actually stake their lives on. A few morons put them on real guns though, which usually results in the cheaply made devices being destroyed by recoil.

2.) A derisive term for the use of an excessive quantity of tactical firearm accessories whether they are real or not.
1a.) The Airsoft player bought a fake EOTech holosight to make his airsoft gun look tacticool. He tried putting it on a real AK-47 later, and the recoil shattered the lens.

That might shed some light on things, but I still don’t get it fully yet.

Cheers

We had a secret meeting which you missed. There was much discussion on how to coyly insult new members and their families.

You overreacted, admit it and move on.

Now what’s your second question ?

I missed the last secret meeting, I had no advance knowledge of it (this entire post is sarcasm btw) :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t know how I missed all the fun in this thread, but holy molly! All I can say is that the once again has proven to be a class act. I’m pretty sure I would not have been able to take the high road on this one. I’m not sure I would have even offered up a cake recipe. You are a better man that I the. Much, much better.

I also want to know why I’m never invited to secret meetings? Does kreisler get to go? I’m starting to think someone owes me an apology.

Lets face it, people say that I’m Tacky all the time.

I have a necklace made of SK68s in all 5 TactiColors (TactiColours in UK and Commonwealth)

But the is just plain COOL.
