The only information we ask for is your name and email for notification. The app checks that you have liked our page and that you are not attempting a duplicate entry. You do not have to subscribe to our newsletter and you certainly don’t have to hand over your data. This is the facebook auth page for the app by woobox.com we’re using. It is the same app used by many reputable companies and does not mine your data for profit and distribution if you read their terms of service. If you feel that this app compromises your facebook personal details and password, you are free to not enter our giveaway, but I would ask that you not slander our company.

Sure, I may have been a tad overzealous in my original post, yet I’m tired of being harvested for information by companies.

Rather than build a company based around slight of hand, tricks and manipulation, why not build it around good old fashioned service and quality products and let word of mouth do the work for you ?

Just look at this forum as one example, if a new place pops up, everyone seeks vendor verdict before completing their consideration of purchasing from them.
Same with established vendors, some have a positive name, others don’t and the feedback from folks is accordingly adjusted to the greater groups experience.

Well I understand why you dont like information harvesting, I dont as well, however I highly doubt thats the purpose and case for this small business which doesn’t really have the capability to use such info. Its whatever app/tool they are using in Facebook that wants to snoop on the information you are objecting to I’ll bet (and may even collect this data whether or not the business using it knows about it), and I think the regular old email application mode they made available would solve this issue.

I think you underestimate the ease and ability to on-sell information.

I do concede that it may be the app I.S is using in FB, yet if the case before this was they’re not aware of the situation, it’s been brought to their attention now.

I do appreciate their desire to give back to their customers, that is admirable.

Again I'll reiterate, we do NOT collect your data for sale or for use other than for the promotion. The Sweepstakes app like many other apps you use on Facebook ask for basic data from your public profile. It asks for your friends list so it can determine additional entries for the sweepstakes when you share the promotion with them. It looks at your likes to determine if you've liked our page and are eligible for the promotion.

You can read about what the information received under "public profile" is HERE. The privacy policy and terms of service can be found in order HERE and HERE. The objectionable data collection you are referring to is associated with the other apps that Woobox provides for us to use like promotion through Facebook ads. This simply takes general data so that targeted ads work, much like what Google does with AdWords. This app functions in exactly the same way that Facebook does in using non-identifiable data to show you targeted ads on the side. WE do not have access to any of your personal data in your profile, we only receive the data you provide us, in this case it is simply your name and email address.

If you have further concerns about privacy on the internet and the privacy practices of Facebook and associated apps on Facebook, please create a different thread to voice and exchange your opinions as this is not the thread to do so.

We already offer the option of email entry for those who do not use Facebook, or who do not wish to use Facebook.
