Interest in development and Group Buy for a low lumen (1-3) single AAA light that can run for a few days on an alkaline?

UPDATE: modded two more lights with 220uH and 180uH inductors. The lower uH inductors are brighter, but after the last fiasco of me guessing lumen, I will not speculate about the specific level… So I sent them off to Mhanlen for his ability to test output/runtime… We will see how these rounds go. In my preliminary testing, the 180uH inductor had less runtime than the others, but it was still 3+ days…

Update: lower output than I thought, only about 1 lumen right now on the 270uH inductor. I have received the 220uH inductors too and will mod another light this weekend. Mhanlen is testing the first light and has over four days at 1 lumen…

UPDATE: Spoke to Neal at Banggood about this, he thinks it would make a good group buy. I have the 180uH and 220uH inductors on order and will find out which one may be the best on light vs runtime. I have given the initial change requests to Neal for him to talk to Manker about. It will be a few days at least until something is heard back.

I am going to start this thread about if there would be interest for a longer run time Manker Boney. I successfully modded a couple of mine in THIS THREAD and figured I would start a thread to find out interest in something like this.

It would be the stock form of the Manker Boney with the pill modified with a larger inductor. I tried a 270uH inductor and got over seven days of light off of a single AAA alkaline. It was about five lumen at the start and through the first five days of continuous run. After that it dropped off and I stopped it at under a lumen, when I could not read a label in a dark room after walking in and closing the door from a normally lit room.

I would also want the electronics potted in the pill, or the pill with a couple of holes in the side so we could pot our own (more than likely the best, otherwise how could we tell?) with RTV or epoxy.

White LED, the Nichia they use in the stock one seems good, but there may be more efficient ones out there, let me know if you can find any.

I would also like to have a different anodizing color, I was thinking a rescue orange. I would not be objecting to other bright colors like yellow either. something easy to see.

I would also request a better anchor hole through the tail, perhaps a bit bigger on the hole with a wider notch…

So what say all of you?

A five or so lumen AAA that runs all week on an alkaline, or even longer on a lithium primary, any how much interest?

+ half a dozen, more like. Ideal for the earthquake/disaster bag, with a lithium primary — good for years.

I’d be up for 4.

I like the idea a lot, but they would have to be quality version of it, dependable, and consistent.

It’s always good to have a long running light for the kit especially with potted electronics. I’d go for a couple in orange, a couple in yellow, and any other colors we come up with (magenta and cyan are good).

Bigger lanyard hole is also good and I wouldn’t mind shaving off a gram or two if we can trim that hip near the anchor.

Other LED color options would be a plus down the line.

Interest in several. Nice idea.

im interested. a disaster light.

I am interested. Looking for lights like this for my BOB/GHB. Thanks!

for me.

I’d be interested in a few…a bright, easy to find color would be great for a BOB/Home Emergency Kit!

I would like a few in bright orange.

If the anchor hole is modified, should work as a great car keyring

Edit: It is also much cheaper at GB than BG…

just put the words ‘GROUP BUY’ in any thread and watch it take off

I’m on for at least 3.

This!

If it came potted, with long runtime and I wouldnt mind square threads(does it interfere with how twisty works?). Oh and it should not cost more than 4$ given its GB? But they LOVE MAP ;)!??

I remember couple of years ago Thrunite opened their Ebay store and sold bundle of 5 two mode Ti's for 40-something USD.

Any way, the one I kept in my rotation was dropped a time or two on the floor at home and stopped working, eventually it just revived itself - not perfect in any sense because now it works, but has to screwed down to the max to enter the HIGH mode and there is short gap when the light just turns off between LOW and HIGH and back.

Another one was DOA, I dont remember if the 3rd one had some problems or not, but I think eventually I got 2 or 3 replaced by Thrunite out of fear that another one might give out.

Needless to say Im avoiding Thrunite since then, call me overly cautious in this regard.

Why not AA? You get more capacity and you have a wider pool of cells to pull from.

I was thinking the same thing. Also it should accept primary lithiums.

a cockroach light should be like a cockroach.
long lived and thrives where others die.

i dont mind getting it in AA. the extra juice will come in handy.

having it with a diffuser will be much appreciated.
the diffuser could serve as a led cover. think of a cockroach with a helmet

AA would be too big imo for keychain use and 5 lumens is too low for the size. If it’s AA, it should come with more usable light.

AAA - 5 lumens or so is fine.

Does saft 10440 exist?
