I've been hoping they would come up with this. And here it is. If I wasnt on this boat till the end of July I'd have ordered 2 before telling anyone here so I could be sure to snag them for myself. But with 2 + months to wait till I get home I guess I can let you lot know about it ;-)
Hope it is every bit as versatile and rugged as its little brother. And I think I see a driver + emitter swap in the future for one of those that I get. A hard driven XR-E R2 and a 3 mode nanjg 105* something. :-) I cant wait.
As tempting as it is to jump on this I'm going to let others guinea pig it first. With a head of only 29mm, the working part on the lens can't be more than 22mm or so. I do hope it's good and it may be for pure flood but I'd rather have a mule for that. To me, aspheric zoomers are for throwing more than flood and I doubt it has what it takes with such a big emitter.
I have the opposite take on ftt (like flood) but i believe your assessment will prove correct - buy it if you want more flood. my c55 w/ xre q? ~2A at the tail (if I remember correctly) had much more throw than after modding it to xm-l at 2.8A. But what a pocket rocket of a flood light it became
I ordered a similar light off Ebay but it wasn’t an XML. It was 18650 and like $7.95 shipped. Still have not got it though. Been several weeks. I will post when I get it.
oh - btw, at least this tailcap switch can unscrew - the c55 is bigger (easier to turn) but the switch retainer is pressed in plastic - in fact more like hot glue than plastic lol
The tailcap on the Sipik 68 was smooth and hard to unscrew.
The tailcap on the Sipik 58 is knurled, but the edge can be rough. It also doesn't make a Sipik 58 look very good because the light looks less aesthetically balanced.
Fortunately the tailcaps from both lights are interchangeable. My Sipik SK 68s are wearing the tailcaps from my Sipik SK 58s and visa-versa.
being all that, but they certainly can be great if they are done right. i bought a modded one here, from a memeber who shall remain nameless, Chicago X, , and it is an absolute beast. maybe it loses a little in ultimate throw distance versus a smaller die emitter, maybe, but at all except for the farthest distance it puts out exponentially more light, a much larger spot, and VERY close to the same throw. it pretty much blows a Q5 or R2 out of the water.
Ok, just looking at the measurements, it's over an inch longer, and quite a bit larger in diameter. Makes sense given the larger cell, but it looks identical appearance wise. Thanks for being an early purchaser, troop. Can't wait to hear what you think about it. I'm up to 5 zoomies now, might need to pick this one up to round out the collection. They are definitely fun flashlights, even if not particularly useful. :)
Ok here's the deal.......I know this Sipik style torch is very, very popular here at BLF but am I the only one who thinks it's fugly? It's design probably doesn't work too well as a pocket edc because it looks like it gets stuck A LOT. This is just my opinion folks so don't have a cow.
