My favorites, the Sofirn C01 and C01s are no longer available, but if you find one, it’s a great light. There’s really so many different offerings, depending on your wants and needs. One of the smallest would be the Photon Freedom, which is powered by a coin cell. oLight has a 2-stage USB onboard rechargeable port light that does what it’s supposed to. You really need to focus on your wants and needs.
You’ve posted in AAA forum, is this the format you want to use?
I’ve a convoy AAA keychain light on the way, stainless so should be quite resistant to damage from keys. I’ve not seen many reviews, if it arrives in the next few days I’ll share my thoughts on it.
Trade off with stainless lights is the increased weight compared to aluminium.
i3eos with heat shrink tubing. E-gizer UL cell. Wrap of ptfe thread tape under the head to keep it from twisting loose in my pocket. Around 100 lumens. I’ve had this set up for going on 5 years. Original light, and it looks brand new under the wrap. Never failed me.
I use a 10440 battery in my Reylight Pineapple Mini light. It has a Nichia 519a emitter. The present version has a recessed switch which should stop the light being switched on accidentally.
My Lumintop Frog V2 can use a 10440 or a 10180 battery. I do not yet know how to permanently switch off the light in the switch though, therefore I would not want the light on my keyring.
Had five of these still sealed in package and batteries were shot, would try to charge but never would, trashed them.
They have not been produced in quite a while so beware. Mine were probably Ver1 so maybe 2.0 are OK?
Nitecore TIP have 1 one of those and the battery is great plus it has a reflector much higher output, etc. while just a hair larger.
No nothing about the newer TIP II
Totally forgot about these!. Have the Rovy and a Translucent clone with the side colored lights and like the clone better.
Bottom line, these are a great size and the one instance that being a permanent battery does not bother me because it is so inexpensive.
May have to get that Tunenge, got an Amazon GC that could fund it.
Thanks!
It’s on sale for $3.5 a pop. Rovyvon clone with similar UI. Moddable. 260mAh battery, USB-C charging, 3535 emitter that can be swapped. GITD option. AUX has white, red, UV and police flasher. Pretty useless AUX but it’s better than nothing. The 395nm UV can come in handy. It lives on my keychain and doesn’t take any space. Physically it’s smaller than a AAA light. Swapped in an SST-20 4000k and it’s pretty nice. I modded the driver and used a single 7135 to replace the 2 resistors. So it gives 1W regulated 4000K R9080 output (~100lm) for 40 minutes. Pretty useful for a keychain light.
If you want to emitter swap, go for the SST-20. I tried many emitters and the smaller LES in SST-20 suits the optics best. It gives much needed hotspot intensity which other emitters lack.
Absolutely look at the Rovyvon A1x series. I’ve got the anduril and stepped versions of the Frog, 4 different emitters in the KC1, Eagtac D25 AAA, E3A, Tini2, Tool AAA, and six A1x’s. (I voted with my wallet!)
The A1x has functional moonlight, a great spread of steps, and the brightest, or near to it turbo. It’s also the second shortest (the Tini is shorter, but much wider). The A1x, KC1, and Frog are available in high CRI. The Tini2 is low CRI, but has that wonderful ‘time remaining’ display.
