Simon’s order uses San’an chips. Luminus may use other chip manufacturer
This is unlikely, as Luminus was acquired by SanAn long time ago and now is a subsidiary of SanAn. LMP needs to buy SanAn chips, while Luminus only needs to use SanAn chips.
People tend to have a better impression of Luminus, which may be one of the reasons why they choose to resell this emitter.
Btw Lumileds was also acquired by SanAn last month.
Yes, but I have no sample. At least with 16x16 mm footprint it could be able to reach power past 200 W (this is the limit for most 11x11 mm emitters, especially these from ChangDa, including SFP55)
Because of that, the SFP55 was quite a disappointment. Due to its (too) “small” footprint and the associated power limitation, it simply cannot play to its strengths (luminous flux due to larger LED chips).
I don’t think this makes sense in a handheld flashlight… Unless it’s 5kg mechanically cooled block of aluminum…
I was rather aiming in 20-30A. Even a mule could be plenty bright.
Nightwatch experiments with stuff like this and the results are always disappointing, but still fun to play with them. The NI03S Super Valkery was a fun one even though it was mostly good for Mid and Low modes only, woth 10 second forays into Turbo.
Still, it looks really cool. Would be a nice host for a regulated Convoy driver and one of those LHP leds.
I have seen that LED, but only available on Taobao so far (with the possibility of buying it via Superbuy.com), but had not seen it on offer on Kaidomain, when I browsed their website 1-2 weeks ago. Nice find!
I’m not 100% sure, but I think to remember that the original (not sure about the current model) Astrolux FT03/FT03S used 32mm MCPCB’s. Unfortunately, the last ones of those sold out a couple of months ago I believe.
I will send Mateminco a message asking what size MCPCB the MT70mini-S (same as the current Astrolux FT03) uses.
Thanks for the quick reply!
I just checked my ‘OG’ FT03 and it turned out I remembered it incorrectly, because that also used a 25mm MCPCB. Will take another look in my collection, because for some reason I really feel I’ve one light that does have a 32mm MCPCB… ![]()
Damn, that looks like a really interesting/fun host to do a cool project with!
It’s a shame that these cool/interesting hosts are so hard to come by/find on more ‘mainstream’ international orientated websites like Aliexpress.
I’ve already found a listing on Taobao, but I have to start to look more into reliable companies who can act as a middle agent in (re)shipping these items.
Cool find though and it looks pretty promissing as a host to do some cool stuff with!
This looks very similar to the W5050SQ5 that Simon is ordering from LMP, could it be the same emitter?
It’s closer to W7070ST1, 7070 footprint, about 3000lm with 10A buck driver. Like SFT25R on steroids
That’s very nice that the efficiency of the emitter is almost the same up to 10W. I’ve got my 3X21C opened up since mine was unucky enough to overheat the mcpcb on FET twice and kill at least one of the emitters. I’m thinking about mixing the 6500K, 5000K, 4000K and maybe 3000K in the middle.
The 1800k is only doing 113LpW. Honestly not worth swapping out High pressure sodium installations above 150 watt. 150w+ sodiums already achieve 105LpW+. 250 watt General Electric lamps Achieve 110LpW and as you go up into 400 and 1000 watt ranges you get up into the 120-160Lpw Range. These would work for replacing sub 100 watt lamps I suppose. But it is not a “Blanket replacement” magic bullet despite popular belief. As with everything there is nuance that is missed under blankets of corporate brochures and sales pitches. Thats not even getting into the Low Pressure Sodium lamps that are comparable to LED in efficiency (higher wattage ones).
That does not stop most Electrical utilities and Citys from slap sticking LED on everything. But sometimes it is a waste of money. Especially when taking into account fixture cost and paying people to throw them up when a high quality sodium bulb is swappable in a few minutes and is able to last 10+ years. (Atleast before manufacturers started dropping quality)
HPS is worth replacing because of how bleak and sickly it makes everything look like.
Why would anyone replace awful sodium lamps with awful monochromatic LEDs?
Because white LEDs are responsible for light pollution..?
IMO 3000K continuous spectrum would be a lot nicer than 1800K (let alone 1800K that’s almost PC Amber)
Edit: for street lights. For flashlights ofc too ![]()
Any light causes light pollution. Sodium light got popular for one and only one reason - at the time it was the most efficient source of light per Watt. It got popular despite terrible light characteristics. There’s no reason to repeat the bad part of the sodium lamps.
Your opinion is not as common as you think. Sodium is awesome. And alot of people miss it after they installed glare bomb LEDs with their gray colored lighting (crap CRI). I will take cheap warm sodium with it’s crap CRI but biased towards orange any day over cheap cold LED. Atleast it is not pretending.
I dont NEED to see colors in great detail at night. And if I do thats what headlights are for. And honestly if people are not able to just see with their headlights with some assistance from over head sodium lighting. Then they should be on a bicycle.
Ultimately thr best street light is NO street light. But if it has to exist. Then make it yellow or low CCT. Full spectrum lighting is destroying the eco system all because people are worried about stuff looking pretty.
I would appreciate my tax dollars going more useful places. Like the destroyed potholly roads or the over headpower lines they could move underground.
Sodium lamp has like 50 CRI, 70CRI white light looks like beautiful colorful paiting compared to sodium. If we can make things better than why not?
