LED test / review - Lumenpioneer LHP531 - all CCT (1800, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6500 K 70 CRI) - very popular 5050 LED with good beam and very good price

Great extensive test, many thanks Koef3. Ordered some at KD and we’ll see.

Did anybody calculate how much brighter are these comparing to XM-L2 and VS SFT-40¿

They’re not really brighter than high bins of XM-L2 up to 5A.

My s2+ with the nichia 519a gets hot in about 90 seconds. That thing with a 10 amp driver must only be useful for like 10 seconds on turbo

Before specifying a power level, this question is ill-posed, which is why nobody has calculated a single number.

As @phantom23 points out, at low currents (5A relative to these emitters) the LHP531 is not meaningfully different from domed 4mm^2-class emitters–all of these emitters have more or less the same asymptotic efficacy at 0A.

The advantage of LHP531 is tint and power handling: the output-vs-power plot stays roughly linear for a much larger range of drive power. The output gap compared to XML2 increases with higher drive power.

Honestly it didn’t get hot as fast as I thought it would.
I haven’t done any time tests on it yet, but I was expecting it to get hotter faster.

Thanks @QReciprocity42

So, does it mean above 5A LHP531 outperforms older 5050 leds?

I just wonder how much I can gain by replacing older ones…

1 Thank

Indeed, above 5A the LHP531 begins to have an increasing advantage in output. It might not throw as well as an XML2 at the same current, but at high currents the output, efficacy, and much-improved tint and tint uniformly more than makes up for it.

IMO: below 5A, I would take SFT40 5000K for the extra throw. Between 5A and 8A, one can decide whether they value output/efficacy more or throw more, and go with either. Above 8A, there is not much to be gained with SFT40, and as long as throw is not a top priority, the LHP531 should be chosen.

4 Thanks

I still would choose the LHP531, just because of the way nicer tint because of the low DUV

2 Thanks

And angular tint uniformity. It’s even less tint-shifty than other domeless emitters like XPL/XHP50/70.3 HI. I think of it as everything the XHP50.2 wants to be but isn’t.

2 Thanks

Sorry for the very slow reply; several issues going on which limit my time to be able to react.

I will send you a PM/DM to further discuss details.

1 Thank

So putting a LHP531 with the 22mm 20A driver in the S2+ “bigger brother” (the S21G) sounds like a solid idea, right?!?

Luminus SFM-140F-WS, in before people search for this emitter name.

The identical photo implies they’re the identical emitters, but the brand Luminus should allows them to be sold more widely.

7 Thanks

Hmm…
Is it common for emitters to be cloned/rebranded like that?

Can’t wait for worse tint and DUV for 3x the price.

6 Thanks

Pretty sure these LEDs are directly from LMP and are just sold by Luminus under Luminus’ brand and their own sales structure in the West. So far I understand these SFM-140-F are a little bit more expensive (After all, Luminus wants to earn something from every LED, I suppose), but from technical specs they seem to be exactly like LHP531.

Maybe Luminus can tell LMP on how to make a proper 1800 K LED

3 Thanks

Or deliver over 4000lm at 9A.

1 Thank

It would also be a first step to comply with the flux bins or to sell narrower flux and color bins.

And now I am curious to see which binnings will be sold by this SFM-140-F on Mouser—because that is where these LEDs will probably be available, with Luminus as the distribution partner.

Have you seen this Beast?

Edit: anybody knows where to buy cheap flashlight with 32mm PCB cavity?

1 Thank

Taobao or any Chinese sellers you have access to.

Currently playing with this beast: DDH-D6E
¥168 RMB, fits a 32mm MCPCB, 47mm driver with USBC opening, and a 46950 battery, with 46120 tube optional.

Thank you. Unfortunately don’t have access to these, only KD, Ali and brands shops with direct shipping to EU.
But I’ll keep searching.
