Recently purchased some Hey Dude’s for around the house. Comfortable for now.
I had never heard of Hey Dude shoes before…
They look pretty decent on their website.

I still got those ratty New Balance sneaker that keep losing the soles, so a tube of Permatex keeps them in use for a while longer. My 2nd pair (bought 2), and this pair it seems like they used Post-It glue to stick on the soles.
Still got the cheep-cheep-cheep leetle-cheeken rubber flipflops that I got from the hole-in-the-wall store near work. Holding up great after all this time.
Wanted “winter slippers”, got a pair of slip-ons with a low “heel”(?) and later on another pair that’s supposta be “convertible”, ie, push your foot in like a slip-on, or hold the heel part and pull it up to make like a regular-shoe-type slipper.
Meh.
Best pair of slippers I got was for 10box at KMart a brazillion years ago. Lasted nigh forever, comfortable as a cloud. Never got as good a pair since.
Had pair from last year that were pretty decent (snug, fleecy, soft), but nfi what happened to 'em. Cats probably hid 'em to be “funny”.
When I was in high school, my mom got me slippers, I think from Mervyn’s.
They had suede uppers and they had fuzzy black and red checkered (polyester?) fleece inside.
I wore them almost everywhere, including school, instead of just around the house.
They were reasonably comfortable, and lasted at least a couple of years.
My newest slippers are comfy in the house, but they’re not very good for outdoors.
That’s fine with me, and I wanted something washable, so that narrowed down my choices.
(Otherwise I would have probably gotten something with leather or suede uppers.)
EDIT:
By the way, I do not like the low heel tab in the back of some slippers.
That type of footwear doesn’t stay on very well.
Yeh, those slippers without a heel-cup, you just gotta shamble forward like some zombie, else they either drop off behind or go sailing forward.
you made my day
Give the stuff called shoe goo a try for repairs. Some swear by it.
I have a pair of the Sketchers slip-ons. Or whatever they call them. All over the TV ads these days.
Easy in and out. Had to up a size. Think Sketchers run small.
But they have wide sizes - required for my Flipper feet.
All the Best,
Jeff
Shoe Goo, Goop, E6800. All the same pretty much. Great stuff for many things. Some are uv resistant and some aren’t. About the only difference I can tell.
I still have a pair of old Teva Pajaro flip-flops that I inadvertently abused over 8+ years (lots of salt water exposure, not rinsing off well, leaving out on a porch for numerous hot day baking sessions)… and I would’ve tossed them if it wasn’t for Shoe Goo. I found a superior version, though. It’s called E6000. It holds up longer. The Pajaros has a 2 part sole–two distinct rubber parts that were merged together somehow, possibly a high strength glue of some sort. Because if they were fused, they shouldn’t have separated. I had to apply the E6000 a few times, over the course of 3~4 years, which extended the life of the sandals.
I’ve also used E6000 for gluing other things too, where a slight bit of flex is an advantage. On a torchiere in my home, the knob came off and while super glue worked… it eventually failed. It’s the repeated torquing that would eventually cause it to fail. Even epoxy glue failed eventually. It’s because of the knob threading being a high petroleum based plastic. A glob of E6000 did the trick, because it can take a little flexing without being compromised.
I think E6800 is the UV resistant version of E6000. Yeah it is. The 6000 will yellow in sun light. Both are paintable though.
Thanks for that. I’d never heard of E6800 before. Will keep that in mind next time I run out of E6000!
It finally got fairly cold in the house last night.
I wore my new slippers with socks.
They’re even more comfy with socks!
Also, they work a whole lot better outdoors when I wear socks.
I’m not going to wear them around town, but they’re great for wearing on different parts of our property.
I received these shoes yesterday.
The orange is way brighter in person, but that’s not the real problem.
They run quite large, so I started a return, and I ordered a smaller sized version from Walmart.
The smaller version is black everywhere, but I don’t plan on wearing them outdoors very long in the hot summer so I don’t think that’ll be a problem.
They do seem like really nice shoes, though I don’t know if the tread will pick up small rocks or not, which is usually only a problem if you live in an area like the desert where there’s sand and small rocks everywhere.
Can you slip them on without bending down ?
I think so, but if you want the heel tab to hold onto your heel, then you would need to bend down.
I will be able to answer your question better after I receive my second order.
here is a picture of the slip-ons i wear for short walks outside
which, if you can wait, will go on sale for around $40.
Merrell Jungle Mocs.
I’ve eyeballed these for ages. My most recent pair of “slippers” were about what you quoted as a sale price for these Merrels. I think I’m turning on my radar for a good deal. They look like what I need for short runs out to the barn and back as long as it’s high and dry.
Thanks for your suggestion.
I had a pair of Merrell suede slip-on shoes (similar to those Jungle Mocs) many years ago.
I don’t remember what happened to them, but they were very nice shoes.
