Hello fellow flashlighters. I am building my second lightsaber (fancy lookin’ flashlight) and I am not having any luck figuring out some parts. I used a buck puck (little cube from ledsupply) and Cree XP E2 in blue (I am no sith) in my first one and now I would like to use a 17mm driver (save room and lead to making actual flashlights). I only need 1000mA output (I think) and a single mode. I have searched ebay, amazon, dx and others. I have found some drivers that fit these requirements on ebay and dx. They all come from China, which is okay except the reviews I have read of dx were not awesome. Is there a good US store to buy from? Is there a good source for better understanding drivers? I know there will be people that say I am lazy and haven’t used Google or the search function (I know I shouldn’t base those thoughts are other forums), but I have. Maybe I am not typing in the right things, terminology is important in searching.
So, to recap:
Lightsaber
US driver supplier
Is dx reliable?
Learning source?
Suggestions on 17mm 1000mA single mode (is this refered to as “constant current”?)
Thank you for all I have learned so far in my silent forum stalking
Hi Hammerjack, welcome to BLF!
I’m sure there is a good driver out there.
There’s one thing missing in your question: what batteries are you using, and how many in series? In other words: what will be the input voltage? That highly determines the type of driver
Thank you! I have about 1000 Duracell CR123 batteries (of course there is a story behind that). My first light saber runs off two of them in series, so i will do the same with this one.
As far as the pictures go…… I am actually not sure how to add them…. and now I feel dumb. I can send you to our Facebook page which has a picture up, but I am not sure if that is allowed?
I just read the rules (probably should have done that first ) and it did’t say anything about linking another page… so here is the lightsaber Innovative Tactical Machining
Keltex78, those were the ones I was looking at. The reviews scared me and I like the idea of supporting people in the CONUS, to heck with you Alaska and Hawaii (just kidding, I have freinds that live in both of those states).
Thank you, Mia Myers. The stay has been great so far.
Here is one of many places with parts and information on saber building whether for display only or actual dueling. See their forums for some ideas and info.
Welcome to BLF Hammerjack. Richard (RMM) at Mountain Electronics is definitely your guy. I’m in Michigan too and I order from him all the time. You can’t get better service, he’s ridiculously knowledgeable, willing to help and his prices are excellent. IMHO the best flashlight and related components source in the US. Man, I really want a lightsaber! So cool!
He has already answered a bunch of questions, what a great guy! What side of the state are you, J-Dub? I am on the west side (pinky joint on the Michigan map ).
