They said that COFA414 is for making a prepayment for the copper WT90 and that the remaining $311 must be paid when the flashlight is ready to ship. The copper version is $411 in total. You end up paying $100 initially ($411 - $311) and then have to pay the remaining $311 when the flashlight is ready.
WT90V5 can be used to order the aluminum WT90 for $138.
I hope that makes sense! WildTrail is trying to allow the group buy to be made over their AliExpress store by using coupons.
Orders will probably get cancelled if people try to use the coupons for purposes that weren’t intended.
There are no restrictions on the coupon when applied, nor is there any such verbiage to that effect on AE. Posting this here means very little to anyone who didnt read your comment and understand it. Particularly since I just went through this myself for the AL version. IMO, its time to rethink the basic logic in this flawed approach.
Also, if the mfgr is so strapped that they cant afford materials to decide a Cu CNC run (presumably without retooling or any program changes) between a commitment of 20 vs 30 lights (or none at all), they probably have much larger problems to worry about than getting stuck with inventory that wont sell immediately.
I think we also need clarification if the light is clear coated or bare Cu. I for one, will not own a light this size that isnt clear coated with a protection rated to withstand the elevated temps this light is capable of. Others might enjoy an increasing patina as bare Cu oxidizes, but its not for me.
I’ve let WildTrail know so that they can cancel orders where people are trying to use the copper code to buy multiple Aluminum WT90 at a massive discount.
They could try to use some other platform for preorders but the overhead might not be justified.
Any reasonable person reading this thread would assume that a large discount code is for the preorder, and WildTrail have confirmed this.
Its a confusing setup but basically works like this:
The copper coupon allows you to make a $100 pre-order deposit you pay for NOW with the $320+ balance to be paid in future when the Cu lights are complete ready to ship, but the balance owed will be determined by the number of preorder deposits sold now. So with only a handful of Cu buyers you will be expected to pay at least $320 (+ your $100 preorder deposit) for a Cu version.
We are all used to seeing items advertised at outrageous retail prices and then being discounted and sold at ridiculously low prices. So its probably prudent to assume this will happen again. Maybe you could ask them to state the actual terms of the agreement in their AE add, as most others seem to do. Pretty obvious stuff, right?
They could also ask AE support for assistance to find out if there are optional conditions that can be applied to coupons to prevent this from repeating itself.
Thanks for following up and tying to make this workable. Not placing blame on anyone or trying to be rude. Thanks again.
You and Zoulas purchased AL versions for $100 but that coupon code you used was actually to direct your funds to a Cu version preorder deposit
I desperately wanted only the AL version but was stuck with the $175 price so i asked for help.
Lumenmax stepped up big time and helped me by negotiating the $138 price for the AL version. I immediately ordered one and noticed finally the Cu version had its own AE listing page to obtain preorder deposits.
All the confusion came from using the unchanged AL version AE listings as a way to bill the $100 preorder deposits with coupon codes
Bottom Line: Merry Christmas!!! the AL WT90s are basically half price. ($138) Im thrilled about that. Order placed!
ETA XMAS plus a day or two.
Shout out and million thanks to LumenMax for not leaving me out in the cold and finally able to get one for myself after 2 years of wanting. I really appreciate you!
I’m not affiliated with WildTrail. I haven’t purchased or reviewed their flashlights. I was given a black WT3M by a fellow enthusiast in exchange for swapping the driver in a silver WT3M.
I asked WildTrail on AliExpress about the coupons and they replied within an hour.
The reason I ask is from a previous post you made:
“I’ve let WildTrail know so that they can cancel orders where people are trying to use the copper code to buy multiple Aluminum WT90 at a massive discount.”
Did anyone else get a shipping notification for their copper preorder? I definitely messaged about it being for the preorder and got an acknowledgement back…
