Lurker finally decides to contribute

Hello everyone, I have been frequenting this site for over a year, thought that I would have lost the urge for more lighting by now however that interest only seems to grow. For me it’s not about finding that perfect light but about building that perfect light (which I have yet to accomplish). I have modded many lights and built a few from scratch with the help of a 3D printer that I have also built. I have learned much from this site. Every time I do an internet search for some specific tidbit of info on all matters concerning flashlights or batteries I always find my answers here. So to all members contributing to this site for the last year and beyond I say thank you.

Hi and welcome Hi-Beam. Another Texan. Theres quite a few of your neighbours here, all very nice people of course. Your lights sound interesting. You will have to post them up.

Nice. What kind of 3D printer did you build?

I used the Prusa Mendel design but with the ability to design and print my own parts, very little of it is still Prusa. I have at least doubled the build area. Good solid platform to start with.

I have noticed all the Texans. Lots of wide open spaces for some powerful flashlights here.

Wecome to the place where we see the Light !

Heya, Hi-Beam. Welcome!

Neat!

welcome to your forum membership!

Yeah, there are quite a few of us Texans here…I find it funny. I think we just about have every region of the state represented here! Well…except for South/BigBend….don’t know of anybody here from Texico.

I’ve heard of Mexifornia but Texico, that’s funny.

This is your new family, Hi-Beam!

Wow…. with a welcome like that how can I refuse. After all resistance is futile.

Ooh someone that can print stuff…nice!

Welcome…we are all learning

heck I JUST learned Eagle PCB and with the assistance/guidance/tutelage of Mattaus and others designed my first driver…I hope I can make the community better as a whole with what I learn

I have read some of the post of you guys designing these new drivers… to this I can relate… that’s friggin outstanding.
I have always said that if you don’t like what someone else has provided for you then create it for yourself. You guys have saved me much frustration of dealing with poorly designed UI’s on many of these drivers. While I love the Chinese for what they have contributed to the advancement and affordability of this latest generation of led lighting, I’m just not sure why they can’t seem to design a driver without disco modes that one person out of a hundred would find useful.
No doubt that strobe mode would be disorienting… so would 2000 lumens shinning in someones eyes and most of the SOS modes don’t actually do SOS.

Don’t even get me started on next mode memory…

To me you have already made a very large contribution.

Welcome Hi-beam, I'm looking forward to flashlights with printed parts, a welcome addition to all the metal work going on here :-)

Yeah it’s frustrating that 99% of the users want something simple and the manufacturers seem to either not give a damn or miss the fact that they would sell more and make a better product if they just listened to us .
I got the new Roche F6 from Convoy and it has horrible low PWM .Just plain stupid not to learn from what 10,000 members already know .
why next mode memory ? God only knows .

I figured some of you guys had 3d printers being the tinkerers that many of you are.

I would love to pitch in.

As a sidenote metal 3d printers are now becoming more available with much lower cost… this holds great promise!

Yer tellin’ me

Hi Beam,

Welcome here !

The 1st light I bought that had next mode memory… I thought was not functioning properly so I complained to the seller that ended up refunding 50% of the purchase price. Little did I know what I know now, that it was designed that way. I feel bad for having received a partial refund for that light.
