I've just received another Maxpedition bag and each bit of kit I receive makes me love their gear even more, so well made and thought out. The question is are there any budget options? Even the accessories add up, I want to add a bottle holder on my Falcon but nearly £40 for a bottle holder seems excessive.
It would be great to see what maxpedition or similar gear everybody uses so please feel free to fill this thread with pics :)
My Versipack and FalconII, think my last resort bag is in the car so not included:
They don't sell direct, but they're actually pretty well made for the price point. I've had their 3 day assault bag for a couple of years, and it's held up well. Except for the fact that my son decided to dance on a buckle, but that's not the fault of the manufacturer.
I have assumed they are all poor quality, maybe not but I've formed that opinion from the free pouches I've got with some products and the poor quality of the knives MF sell. I'd happily be proved wrong but I'd not want to blindly buy one.
The Falcon II is my new one, it is a great bag. I've used it today on the MTB with a water bladder in the hydration pocket, it's secure, comfy and bomb proof, everything works really well too, the zips and clips are all plush to use
Sorry for being a little off-topic... but does anyone know how well the North Face Alteo (25,35,50) backpacks work in preventing a sweaty back when hiking or cycling? I like the Wind-Tunnel idea... or are there similar concepts available which work even better?
May not be comparable, but my UTG messenger bag makes a decent Dad's covert diaper bag. Quality on mine was good, but you pay and take a chance with knock-offs.
I've gotten a few attachments from milsurp and ebay that give me some flexibility . . cheap milsurp alice to molle adapters work to convert belt pouches you might already have. I like having basic first aid outside of the bag instead of buried, so the minor stuff is in a wart. Same if a radio is in use.
A radio pouch looks like it will work for a standard water bottle. Since the UTG bag has an integral water bottle pouch that works for larger quart/liter bottles, I've not tried carrying extra water with mine.
off topic to your question a little but I’ve been using a Kriega pack for cycling or more commonly on the motorcycle. Excellent pack, super comfy, not built like a maxpedition but then it’s not a wilderness/survival type of bag, made specifically for riding with.
I rarely use backpacks on my motorcycle, but rather tank bags or cases. I am asking specifically for something with some kind of extra ventilation on the back while doing sports (hiking/bike cycling).... so it has to be a rucksack/backpack with a built in (metal) rig, i assume...like the Alteo.
It is shown in this video on the ~3:20 minute mark...
Thats the pocket organiser think its the fatboy or the large anyway. Has a few basic things in, compass, lighter, torch, knife etc. great to chuck into which ever big bag I'm using so I don't have multiples of everything.
