Men's Necklaces (a.k.a. Chains)

Decades ago I used to wear a relatively thin gold chain with a cross on the end. I later added a second thicker gold necklace because I liked the way it looked. Every once in awhile I would wear a beaded necklaces or a leather versions. Style changes though.

Jewelry, including necklaces, is a personal style. You’ll have to be comfortable with it and yourself if other’s don’t like it. Recently I was getting ribbed by some friends about wearing my cheap Timex watches because they didn’t wear watches as they work in a mechanics bay and watches get destroyed. Now some of them are wearing smart watches while they work and swear by them. Similarly you might find that some activities don’t work well with a necklace, ring, watch, etc.

Be aware, if you go for silver you’ll have to polish the tarnish off every once in awhile. If you get fake gold it will green and leave a green stain on your skin.

Yeah, I’ll avoid silver and fake gold.
I actually like the look of stainless steel, and it’s probably the most practical metal used for chain necklaces. :+1:

My chain’s silver, wearing it in the shower seems to be keeping it nice and clean. If silver does get tarnished toothpaste’s good for cleaning it.

See? Pays to go cheap.

Wow, that guy really is lucky.
His chain is only 10mm thick, but the bullet hit the very middle of the chain and the chain saved his life.

I thought the video was going to be about how stainless steel doesn’t tarnish while silver does tarnish.

I was going to say that for flashlights, I usually prefer aluminum because it’s so inexpensive and it sheds heat pretty well, but based on that video, this sentence is totally off-topic. :zipper_mouth_face:

I used to wear a tiny squeeze red led on a piece of 550 (w/ a breakaway connector) in the field, way before there were decent headlamps. Closest I’ve come to what seems like an oxymoron “mens necklaces”.

Yeah, the word necklace isn’t very manly, but Amazon has a whole category of “men’s necklaces.”
Lately I’ve been using the term “chain necklace” because I prefer chains (and that term is more masculine anyway.) :male_sign:

From the TV show NCIS Los Angeles.

Deeks: I don’t know, I’m pretty in touch with my feminine side.
Kensi: If you did have a feminine side, you’d be touching it all the time.

@dthrckt @raccoon Just make your neck jewelry out of bones, nobody will question what you call them then :joy:

I got my second chain necklace today.
The two chains looks pretty similar, but one has a diameter of 9mm and the other has a diameter of 12mm or 13mm.
I never intended on wearing both at the same time, but my mom suggested it, and it looks really cool.
I might just continue wearing them both, and not get any more (larger) chains.
There’s a rapper that goes by 2 Chainz, and even though I’m not a rapper, now I am “2 Chainz” as well. :stuck_out_tongue:

Someone should normalize wearing chainmail

If anyone is looking for a 21mm chain for very little money, here it is.

A 30 inch 21mm chain is $17.99, and you can get a $1 off coupon to knock it down to $16.99
That price is crazy inexpensive.
That’s way cheaper than Amazon, eBay, and the rest of AliExpress, too, as far as I can tell.
It might be a pricing mistake because the 21mm chains are cheaper than the 16mm and 19mm chains (at this AE store.)
I don’t think I’ll be ordering it because I’m quite happy wearing two smaller chains simultaneously.

A former cow-orker had a chainmail tie.

Heh-heh, “schmuck”…

1 Thank

Damn, that actually looks sick!

3 Thanks

Am I the schmuck?
What did I do that’s so foolish?

Oh, okay!
I didn’t even read the German AliExpress link title. :man_facepalming:

Leaving taste aside, how much would that thing weigh?

My chain’s 8.5mm, I don’t think I’d go much bigger.
