My complete EDC kit as of today, including 3 flashlights

This is literally my EDC, just took it out of my belt purse at the top:

Left to right:

  • Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G aka Lisa (running opensource LineageOS of course), attached to the belt of the purse with a lanyard and a quick-release cord so it’s harder to drop or misplace;

  • keyring (actually quite a few keyrings, all joined with a carabiner, with a Leatherman Micra on a quick-release plus a USB pendrive and a Photon-like micro-flashlight as my light-of-last-recourse);

  • 2-AA battery case with 2 Vapcel H10 batteries;

  • Wurkkos FC13, operating dual-role as my main powerbank and backup light, elastic-banded with a USB C-to-C cable plus a case with 2 spare 18650 batteries, all fitting inside their own mini-purse;

  • Rite-in-Rain BK17 pen, clipped to one of the mini-purse strings so it’s harder to lose;

  • Hank D3AA as my main light (still in testing, my usual main light is a TS10v1).

  • Not shown: wallet with documents and money bills and credit cards, coins, etc.

This is the latest and most perfect so far iteration of my EDC kit (started in the early 90s with a Victorinox double-blade and a Maglite solitaire), but of course there’s always room for improvements.

This I carry literally everywhere – when I’m out in Nature hiking etc, I also carry a backpack with a Camelback water bag plus emergency rations, emergency blanket, paracord, a Leatherman Supertool 200 with hex bit adapter plus a few hex bits, a Pelican waterproof case clone with 3 more 18650 batteries and a Fenix ARE-D1 powerbank/charger, and a few more things.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

Agree the FC13 is a not-too-large utilitarian light. Cram a 3600 mAh cell in there and you have a capable Anduril 2 flashlight and a power bank when you need juice for your phone.

Cram a 3600 mAh cell in there and you have a capable Anduril 2 flashlight and a power bank when you need juice for your phone.

That’s exactly the way I use mine, but with LG MJ1 3500mAh cells instead (will probably upgrade to 4000mAh cells from Vapcell or XTAR in the future), much more flexible than a dedicated powerbank, as besides carrying more cells for extended capacity it also does double duty as my backup light (and main thrower if I need one).

I had an issue with its powerbank function about an year ago, but since I have started charging my cellphone while it’s still over 10% and the issue has not happened again.

What LEDs you choose?

1 Thank

I went with the classic combo as recommended by @Toykeeper: 519A 5700K dedomed, with the standard optic (albeit I also purchased the other two TIR options for experimenting, haven’t done any yet).

These LEDs and optic are actually the best part of my D3AA, pure neutral high CRI light with perfectly shaped beam and flood/throw balance, and one of the few points where it beats my TS10v1.

Good grief, that’s a weighty kit.

Looks good though, I dislike those cheap carabiners, I’ve broken at least one. I find the aluminium ones with wire gate are more premium but not the most secure, I sometimes find a key had escaped from the pack while in my pocket. Nowadays I use a stainless screwlink, it’s a bit overkill, but nothing can escape without my knowledge!

1 Thank

Yep, I’ve never measured it, but I estimate my complete belt pouch with that kit and everything else inside weights around 1 kg. Not too uncomfortable when worn around the waist, and if I ever need a weapon, I suppose I could take it out and use it as a flail :rofl:

Looks good though,

Thanks! :+1: It’s always nice to hear favorable opinions from brothers-in-light!

Agreed, I would never put any kind of real weight on it. I use it exclusively to aggregate my keyrings together.

But for that particular use, it’s been over 6 years since I started using this exact carabiner, and apart from all the blue anodizing wearing out, it’s still as good as new. Actually I bought a pair in order to have another as a backup in case that one failed, but the other one is still waiting for its turn (just saw it the other day when I was cleaning the box where it’s stored).

Never happened to me. It came from factory with a threaded ‘ring’ that could be screwed in place to make the spring-loaded part impossible to open, but after about an year of use I found it hindered my daily usage more than it helped, so I took it out – and still nothing came out unless I wanted it out. The spring is pretty strong, tho – so it takes a conscious and directed effort to open it up, so maybe that’s the reason why.

Nowadays I use a stainless screwlink, it’s a bit overkill, but nothing can escape without my knowledge!

You mean one of those? Screw Links - Pear Screw Links - Steel Screw Links - Rock-N-Rescue

Interesting, never heard about those. Perhaps I should try one to see how it works for me.

Any particular preference among the many formats?

Yup one of those, I just use the regular oval, whatever one of the thinnest options is. The only annoyance is needing keyrings large enough to slip over the screw part, so you can remove what you want without taking half the stuff off.

Very nice. I choose for 3500 domed and they are gorgeous!

519A at 4500 with dome for mine. I wish I would have gone with the 5700 now. I too got the available TIRs. But I like the stock one enough that I haven’t tried any of them yet.

3 Thanks

I have a few of them of different sizes. All the oval ones. I never use them. Security is the best, but a PIA if you are taking things off and putting them on regularly.

1 Thank

Here is my keychain carry.

1 Thank

Same here. I plan on doing some experiments with the other two, but the stock TIR is so good I feel no pressure to replace it.

1 Thank

So, about the same with the “threaded ring” on my carabiner: the added security isn’t enough to overcome the aggravation of having it on.

Some stuff I’ve never seen! From left/top to right/bottom:

  • #1: box cutter?
  • #4: lighter?

#1 is the famous P-38 can opener, loved by generations of American GIs in the days of canned C-rations and worn with their dog tags.

The other is a tiny but cool little lighter.

Somebody shops at CountyComm, I see. That peanut lighter is surprisingly useful, since it keeps the fuel sealed nice and tight, unlike the classic Zippo. I opted for a P-51 for better grip, since it’s still decently small. They’re just great little can openers in general. Is that a dragonfly as well?

It is a plain edge Lady Bug which I have a lot of confidence in for such a tiny knife.

Nothing from CountyComm though.

1 Thank

I have ended up with several of different sizes. None from COunty Comm. I can vouch for the fuel retention. I just tried one here in my desk that I filled well over 2 years ago… still lights up on the first try.

I have the same Spyderco in blue with the K390 blade an it’s the best small knife I have ever owned. The blade is scary sharp, just as sharp as my ZT 0456 in CMP 20CV. It was not cheap but the K390 steel blade was worth it.
