Now that i have reached the 1000 posts here on the Budget Light Forum, - its time to support the tradition of BLF with the 1000-post Giveaway !
Winner will be chosen using your reply/post number in the topic as yout ticket number picked by random.org/.
- - - The Giveaway prize will be a lightly Modded Defiant Control-Ring Zooming Light.
- Some have said they had a hard time or unable to find these at their Home Depot stores, so i’m giving this one as my first giveaway prize. I kind of like these lights as they are different from the other various Defiant lights we seen, as this one has a similar moving-post Zoom configuration as the LED Lenser lights, and has a very wide and smooth flood mode, with a throw mode still having some flood. (unlike traditional zoomies that have no flood when focused to throw) This light also works great with a non-protected 18650 using a spacer tube, making it multi-cell compatible.
These came with three modes, Low, High, & Strobe.
The XP-G2 Neutral White emitter is conservatively driven, i got 1.05 Amps at the tail cap on High, and 0.09 amps on Low using 3 AAA cells in the AAA carrier, giving the light a good balance of run time and output. I use one now in my truck clipped to the sunvisor, and have carried one several times while night Geocaching in the back country and on camping trips. Its has a good feel & balance for holding with or without gloves.
- I did a quick mini-review of this light when i first found them here: >> New Defiant Zoomie with XP-G2 !
I did some mods to this light, first with some mild machine work on the outside with polishing. I replaced the original emitter with another XP-G2 with slightly more neutral tint with a higher CRI index in the 4200K - 4700K range. I left the driver stock to keep the light as a good balance of usable run time and output, especially with an 18650 Lithium. i did modify the AAA-battery carrier by removing the spring from the driver and placing it on the carrier, and soldered a copper button on the driver, to allow use with the longer protected 18650 cells. I will also include a 18650 cell spacer tube & with the 3-AAA carrier so you can use it with 18650’s, 3 AAA Eneloops, or Alcalines.

Below is a photo of the Beam Profile, Top is fully zoom to flood showing the wide smooth flood beam, and bottom is the Zoomed out to show round hot-spot with some flood still in the profile. A better combination in throw-mode than standard zoom lights.
Congratulations to Post # 11 ! ( Bort ) for winning my first BLF Giveaway.
