Just received my Black Sky Ray King from Ric along with 4 Keeppower 3400mah 18650 batteries. I took it apart to take a look at the driver and this is what I found:
It looks different than what I have seen ppl posting on here. The batteries are currently charging, but I did check the modes which are LOW, HIGH, OFF and hold for STROBE.
Yeah, that is a simplified driver that IIRC is DD on high and may need new wires for max current (10 amps).
Yes, that’s a direct drive driver with PWM for modes. I don’t like these.
Where can one get a NW King with the old driver?
I will attempt to check the current draws and see how this simplified version compares to the other version going around.
Btw, the driver is held down by a threaded ring and the two red thinner wires go to the e-switch.
Looks like its seenvson serious heat during soldering but the blobs still look like dry joints to me, might just be due to camera flash though.
This driver Driect drive 100% mode and other modes uses PWM
Maximum current depend on battery conditions.
Is this what Ric said "improved build quality" ??
Do you have the old sky ray king? So this direct drive driver is bad?
It’s potentially horrible… there appears to be no way for it balance the currents to each LED… and I seriously doubt that they matched the LEDs for Vf and I over the operating temperature range.
Can you post a picture from the bottom side of the driver, please?
I have the same question… Which one is new and which one is old?
The head with the 4 set of three holes in the outer ring appears the newest model.

I just got a new Sky Ray King ‘black’ from Ric and it seems to use the old good driver 
… anyway one of the LED doesn’t power on so I’d like to give a look at the wiring just in case something got loose.
I’ll appreciate your help in disassembling the driver circuit since I’ve no clue where to start from !

hmmmm, i have one of these on the way. wonder which driver ill get?!
Fingers crossed then, hopefully the driver should be the good one … and everthing should work as expected.
was yours out of the second so called higher quality batch just out a couple weeks ago??
First post here, long time C*F member. Can you hold the Sky Ray King in your hand on high for extended time? Is there a way I can be sure to get the old style driver when I order? and last what brand batterys are best to use. Thanks
