Opple Light Master 4 discussion thread (new 2023 model)

Me too!!! Can’t wait

Thank you very much. I am a lucky owner of Opple LM4 and soon going to run a several car led bulbs testing and comparison using the device. Glad finding this discussion thread. Yeah your judging is correct. I am in a safe place right now, but
all that’s happening is the part of my everyday life one way or another.
Can we help somehow Steve? Unfortunately, I do not have any professional photometrical devices to compare results with LM4, but may be there are other ways?

1 Thank

I wait for the new algo so I can test it with my LEDs of every type (CCT/Ra)

What I can say for sure, the LM4 would not be suitable for measuring any lighting outside of LED (incan, sunlight etc), at least as far the results from Steve go.

I wish Steve has all available LED on the market including specific ones like plant growing LED, ultraviolet, IR in order to make his algorithm as best as possible. Anyway i suppose we will be happy for any improvement.

1 Thank

actually I don’t have, I only have access to several desk lamps and one SDL light strip.

Hi Steve,
I’d be happy to give you a high CRI light if that helps? I would offer to donate others to your cause but I don’t really do low CRI or high CCT. However, if you pick a needed light from say Simon at Convoy, I could PayPal or Venmo you. I could also drop ship a needed light.

Let me know via PM.

Thanks for all your efforts and putting up with the couple of trolls!

He already tested a D3AA with 519A

I may give you the links on Aliexpress (if it helps) where I bought my growing plants LED strip and ultraviolet leds for disinfection.

OK, you want to test growing plants LED and ultraviolet leds?
I think I would consider buying it if necessary and apply for reimbursement from the company.
@Egroeg long ago said LM4 better uses thin film to shield IR, although I don’t know how to do.

I am sorry, my last posts, was considered as spam. I deleted them already.
So, I will not post any links to products anymore unless you will ask me, and then I will send you links as a private message.
Basically, my first idea was proposing to buy LED strips for IR, Ultraviolet and growing plants LEDs.
But then I came up with an even better idea.
If you have some basic skills in electronics and soldering you can build a simple test stand using set of leds with different narrow emission characteristics like red color (620nm), yellow (590nm) etc.
Different LED has different voltage drop, but it’s easy to power them properly with adding correct resistor. All LEDs can be powered using whatever DC source you have, for example 12V, I can help with a circuit if you need. And you may add a button or rocket switch to turn on/off the power.
You may even connect all leds in parallel simultaneously and add switch for each led and switch on/off without assembling/disassembling the test stand. In this way you may test a few light on LEDs.
And yes, as you have professional spectrometer you will check LED characteristics first and then calibrate LM4 algorithm.

For ultraviolet I am personally going to use 275nm LED which is perfect for disinfection/sterilization but it’s not healthy spectrum for eyes so you probably need protection glasses working with this particular LED which cuts light emission 180-520nm, I have this one.

As an alternative to test you may find on Amazon near ultraviolet 390-400nm strip, it seems less like harmful light for eyes.
I have no much experience with infrared lights, but I believe that having in the test toolbox something like this 940nm strip will also may improve the algorithm quality.
I hope it helps.
and sorry for a little bit of mess I made with several answer messages.

I think the chip we used has limitations.

1 Thank

my Windows app actually can connect with LM4 with Bluetooth now, but still very buggy. I haven’t tested it, but I think it is full of bugs currently. my idea is for it to be workable, and continuously optimize the software.

3 Thanks

If you have the software somewhat stable you can send me this if you want

Hi there, sorry for the nuisance. That was just the automated spam control system, but your posts were not spam and it wasn’t necessary to delete them. Please let me know if you want me to restore the posts.

In the future it could be better to post all the stuff in one single post instead of splitting this into several small posts.

Right, that would be better. I merged the posts here:

2 Thanks

i would be glad to make a single post but i could not make the post, i received an error that post with more than 2 links is not accepting by the system.
Sorry each forum has own rules, i just jump into discussion too quickly

Ah, that’s probably since you were new - the forum software can be pretty annoying for new users… It will improve after a couple of posts and not restrict such basic things anymore

Dear Steve, is there any guess +/- N months when the new algorithm could be released?
Thanks.

I don’t know actually, depends on the app team.
they seem busy although I don’t know why, long ago one of the app team member told me maybe after May 1st he would have time, so let’s see.

we are going to have a national vacation, maybe after May 10th or 15th I could release my windows app.
but for android and iOS apps, it is dependent on shanghai app team; they have their own schedule.
@koef3 as far as I know, my colleague didn’t incorporate support of sunlight. so your previous saying that duv reached 0.007 under 12, 000K daylight may happen.
