POLICE 3W only $0.01

how do i take this light apart?

dremel?

i want it to go back together again, otherwise i could use brute force, its not thick metal
it has always bothered me that some things you have to destroy taking apart to learn how to properly take it apart (if you had one to burn you would leanr what you need to know for any future disassembly)

The lens holds the reflector and pill in place by pressure. Just push the lens, relfector, and pill out the front of the light by pushing on the driver from the battery side.

Reassembly is just the reverse. Put the pill and reflector back in from the front. Then press the lens back in place until it is all snug.

i tried that without success, i don’t want to break it, but if it came out that way would not the battery eventually push it out on its own?

I believe the Mini C8 is put together the same way. It’s tight enough of a fit that the battery can’t push it out.

A suggestion was made by another user (apologies, forgot who), place a bit of hot glue on the lens and rip that sucker out from the front. When the mod is complete it was recommended to cut a very small slot in front of where the lens sits and place a small bit of wire/ p60 spring in the slot; this may have been due to a slightly looser fitting TIR though. If you reset the original lens it may be fine.

borked, you’re talking about opening the MXDL 2xAAA?

It’s not the same as the mini C8s. The lens is pressed from front but the driver is pressed from the inside. There’s a carved-in stopper to stop them both ways.

You need to loosen the plastic pill by twisting it a little (remove the initial static friction) left and right, then slowly pull it. I used a needlenose plier. Just don’t grab it too hard, it’s plastic after all.

Another tip, a little silicone spray always helps when opening these types of driver without damage.

If you're asking about the light in the OP, you have to push very hard. So hard that it feels like some thing will break. Once it pops out, you will know why a battery does not push it out. The reflector, pill, and a spring will just fall out the front. There is a ledge the spring rests on. The ledge is supposed to keep the assembly from sliding down the battery tube. You would probably ruin the spring trying to pull it out the back. I don't think the pill will clear the ledge either.

I have been rather scathing in my posts regarding this offer and the torch that didn’t arrive well, lucky me, Tmart decided to make it right after they replied to an email that I sent them.

I like the personal touch - Dear customer - wishful thinking on their part!

So I’m expected to take a coupon for $0.03.5, ($0.05 but it cost me 1p ~ $0.01.5) in place of a Police 3W torch YAY what a deal. The chances of it being delivered by mistake are Zero. In the U.K. if you are not at home and the parcel is too large to fit the letterbox (actually a slot approx 40mmx250mm) or needs a signature there is a card with the details on posted through the letterbox then it is taken back to the depot. Last year the Royal Mail wanted to start a scheme whereby you nominated a “friendly” neighbour to accept the item for you you could opt out by placing a supplied sticker on your letterbox, I did this. I get on well with my postman and I’ve often said to him not to bother bringing the parcel because I won’t be in but he always does. He knows that I get a lot of parcels so it’s not unusual for me to leave it a few days before I collect the items, I’m only a couple of miles from the depot so it suits me. So no the torch was not left with anybody else.

I’ll wait and see how they respond.

Its been my experience that you used far too complicated language for them to understand, my last fasttech order i could not place because the credit was 38 cents greater then the order, after a week of arguing back and forth they could not understand my english well enough to understand the problem let alone fix it.

When they reply I’ll make it simpler for them to understand, without getting nasty, nasty just gets nowhere.

true, but it seems the simplest to understand english also got me nowhere

btw this light is not worth a penny, if you can get an equivalent credit (for todays price would be nice) use it towards something better

I never received mine either…but I did get my penny back. Fair is fair.

My friend ordered one & it just arrived recently.

Imho it really would be nice if people didn’t file disputes over a $0.01. Discourages them from doing promotions like this. Look into the actual buying power of $0.01 or how easily you waste much more then that. The effort could go somewhere better.

Actually, thinking about it, its interesting. Perhaps its easier to feel wronged in this type of thing. Your interaction is with an unseen company / entity. Language barrier. Some scripted lines. There is the waiting with internet orders. Other people have got theirs.

My MXDL 2xAAA 0.1$ came some weeks ago, can be over 1 to 2 months…

Wow, cool, really find very cheap flashlight from here.

I’m still waiting for my police light to come. I didn’t bother filing a dispute for the penny. I’ve found a penny or two on the street since, so things have evened themselves out.

impressive since the penny has been discontinued

Sure, they don’t produce them in Canada anymore, but they still continue to be legal tender. It’s not like they all magically disappeared after the government said they were phasing them out.

and melting them, so not magic but they are disappearing
