I searched and couldn’t find a similar thread, so if this has been done before, oh well.
Nevertheless, I thought it would be a fun idea to have one thread where everyone could post the funny descriptions they find on the internet, or perhaps take pics of the packaging/boxes they receive that have funny Chinese to English translations on them. I come across them all the time, and thought it would be awesome to have a single thread listing all the endlessly amusing nuggets of unintended humor.
Honestly…to me…half the fun is reading the descriptions. I used to wonder why they wouldn’t just hire someone well versed in English to do the translations, but then, I realized that I would be missing all the fun of reading them!
So…I’ll start one from WallBuys, a keychain combo laser/light partial description:
“With a carabiner, can be hung on a keychain, anyone to use tilapia!”

The knife cuts both ways. General Electric had a world-wide advertising campaign in the 1980s, their slogan claimed “”We bring Good Things to Life”: However, when the slogan went to China, whoever translated it raised eyebrows in China.
Basically the translation meant: G.E. can raise your dead relatives and animate them.
“Luminous tail cap design is of convenient to use electricity at night.”
“Shift: electricity into arbitrary files, if the duration of less than 2 seconds on the power, then the next time after power-transmission, power 3 seconds or more with a memory function, the next electricity or default of this stall.”
“Material: hard-shell stage III oxidation of AA using extinguishers, working to further improve housing, high-strength wear-resistant, with Daogua will not leave scratches, more convenient and portable, without fear of being the key to sharp objects such as scratch; head Department head design for the attack, dangerous and often can be used to self-defense”
“Can all be demolished, suitable for DIY enthusiasts continue to escalate”
I’ve so often been disappointed to get a flashlight only to realize it can’t be demolished.

DD has an interesting translation for the word ‘Wang’…used in many of their flashlight listings. Some of their ‘Wangs’ are even ‘five-speed’ :bigsmile:
