Practical Flashlight Recommendation if Money were No Object?

I know someone for whom $1000 is basically pocket change. They want a flashlight for seeing what goes bump in the night on their fairly large property. The idea of having an external charger is not appealing to this person. They want something powerful, rechargeable, and with decent runtime. I don’t know just how far this light will have to reach yet.

I’m going to show them a couple of my lights so they have an idea of what is possible and I might know more about what they are looking for after that.

Currently I think that an Acebeam X75 would be a pretty nice choice unless it turns out he needs more of a dedicated thrower. Thoughts?

Well, not a price no object light, but Wurkkos TS32. Lots of quality light from the519A flood. Decent throw from the SFT40. USB C charging. Power bank.
I would have one even if not on a budget. Is it practical? It has no carry options. A bit large (but not much different from the X75) One needs a very large pocket or backpack). Handle is a bit small. Steps down (but all of this class of light do that). Overall well built. But at least one person here had a problem with water ingress when holding it under a faucet. Not sure if this is typical or a one off.

Yes, X75 70.3hi and 8x21700 battery pack.

Do they need lumens, throw, both?
Is weight an issue?
Also size, could they handle something heavy and large (like an HID thrower size)?

Finally would a LEP be better or worse for them?

Money no object? How about these then?

  • Wuben A1
  • MicroFire OptiSpike S50 or S90
  • MicroFire LightWall SP750
  • Imalent MS18
  • Astrolux MF05
  • Lumintop GT98 or GT94
  • Peak Beam Maxa Beam MBS-410 (the light from Jurassic Park)
  • Lemax LX70
  • Acebeam W50
  • Maxtoch Owleyes W Pro

Nice article!

This chart should have meters though (instead of km).

Thanks. Good spot! I need to see if I can find the spreadsheet I used to make that and update it.

I also need to add a few new flashlights that came out this year (2022, for a couple more hours here).

I wish it were kms, imagine lighting up things 1/4 of the planet away

How about the Olight Marauder 2? Can do both flood and throw. Has built in charging. 14000 Lumens

Also, the packaging and finishing has that “premium” feel that rich people like.

If money is no issue than Maxabeam or better Megaray.
Mike

Thanks for all the responses everyone. Still sifting. If he buys one that was recommend here I’ll post an update about it.

Unlimited budget isn’t actually as liberating a factor as you might think. I’m set for life financially, and yet I’m still trying out mostly normal and cheaper budget flashlights, because the ones that are $400+ just don’t fit my use case or preferences. They’re either giant monsters that I’d never bother using, or custom lights the size of my thumb that are mostly ugly IMO and aren’t any better performers than what I already have. I could buy any light, and yet my favorite flashlight (S21D) is $32.

2 Thanks

I agree, the money no object part is deceiving. One of my favorite lights is the TS21 which cost me under $25.

The bottom line is you can’t have one light.

You are better off recommending a bunch of different lights for different applications.

Just like you would not recommend a dirt bike to go cross country.

IMO, a toss-up between Imalent SR16 and Acebeam X75 XHP70.3 HI.
The SR16 is cheaper and throws further even with less lumens, but the X75 now has optional 8-cell battery pack that may swing the vote to its favor.

If money where no option I’d go with a Modlite for something that I could EDC

i;d have a combo

EDC/pocketable FIRST—FW3A

then some raygun ‘white laser’ thing

then a 4x18650 flooder

oh but they all have to have charging built in

that is actually difficult with multi-cell lights

If money was no object I would get one of these overpriced lights such as Teklite.

the thing is, you need at least 3 different lights

even a $1000 one will not do all 3 things you need

EDC
flood
spot/raygun

and good ones to do any of them, just are not that expensive
