I know someone for whom $1000 is basically pocket change. They want a flashlight for seeing what goes bump in the night on their fairly large property. The idea of having an external charger is not appealing to this person. They want something powerful, rechargeable, and with decent runtime. I don’t know just how far this light will have to reach yet.
I’m going to show them a couple of my lights so they have an idea of what is possible and I might know more about what they are looking for after that.
Currently I think that an Acebeam X75 would be a pretty nice choice unless it turns out he needs more of a dedicated thrower. Thoughts?
Well, not a price no object light, but Wurkkos TS32. Lots of quality light from the519A flood. Decent throw from the SFT40. USB C charging. Power bank.
I would have one even if not on a budget. Is it practical? It has no carry options. A bit large (but not much different from the X75) One needs a very large pocket or backpack). Handle is a bit small. Steps down (but all of this class of light do that). Overall well built. But at least one person here had a problem with water ingress when holding it under a faucet. Not sure if this is typical or a one off.
Unlimited budget isn’t actually as liberating a factor as you might think. I’m set for life financially, and yet I’m still trying out mostly normal and cheaper budget flashlights, because the ones that are $400+ just don’t fit my use case or preferences. They’re either giant monsters that I’d never bother using, or custom lights the size of my thumb that are mostly ugly IMO and aren’t any better performers than what I already have. I could buy any light, and yet my favorite flashlight (S21D) is $32.
IMO, a toss-up between Imalent SR16 and Acebeam X75 XHP70.3 HI.
The SR16 is cheaper and throws further even with less lumens, but the X75 now has optional 8-cell battery pack that may swing the vote to its favor.
