I'm in need of filling a void for specialty micro tools. Sizes that aren't found in the average persons tool array. I'm not talking about a set like we would buy to fix our eye glasses.
I was looking at the hex-bit security type sets, and multi bit sets, but I'm not finding anything hardened.
I would prefer a set that has both standard and mertric combined.
Something to mention, house brands are also just as good as major (xpensive) name brands. I've just been away from this side of the tools to remember the names that are good.
Any suggestions? Please bring them to my attention. I need to get something ordered.
I’ve got this set from proxxon not to bad but I find the pistol ratchet to be crap. proxxon set (it’s the first link I found as an example)
I use it in combination with a bosch mini ratchet and a metabo bit-screwdriver. I really like the long bits, they are very handy.
The torx-bit are security bits with a hole in the center. I haven’t damaged one bit yet but I never used them in my drill driver.
For the really small torx/PZ screws I have 2 wiha precision screwdrivers who are really great but quite expensive for what they are.
I'm rethinking. I don't use these small bits for any type of real torque to see any value buying an expensive set. I'm going to stop by some places that have tools to have a look.
The WiHa brand is expensive. I have several sets of the micro screwdrivers I have been using for years.
Depending on the amount of use, some things are just buy it and be done with it purchases. The did I just pay that?, goes away faster...LOL!
True, I don’t know how many sets of cheap micro screwdrivers I bought (those metal ones) most of the smallest ones all came loose. The wiha are great but one screwdriver is as much as 2 sets of cheap ones.
Depending on what you need them for the long bits are ideal if you need to unscrew thing out of small holes, the short ones just have no reach.
Hey mate I got a really good set from dx years and years ago like 4-5 years now. I have seen similar sets at fasttech check them out. Mine are proper tool steel. Don’t go for the cheapest ones get like mid tier. I just bought some stepper drill bits from fasttech they are okay I have used them on aluminium a few times and still okay. Some times its worth the risk.
I also bought some cheap side snips from fasttech the ones used for electronics they are great I have never seen any for sale here.
wera, facom, proxxon just to name a few, not saying they are better cause I don’t have the money to buy and test em all. But they are quality products.
And some cheap brands can be good to they just won’t take the abuse a facom can take for example.
These are smaller tools. How much are you going to abuse them? Generally speaking the screws in electronics are easier to get out unless they are glued in. I kind of have cheap tools i can abuse and betters tools for other jobs that i keep mint. So i keep extra screw drivers in case i need to use one to pry or hammer some thing. I have a cheaper socket set i can hammer if need be. These are all for bigger jobs.
Of course you’re right, just saying I’ve had times when I had to put some torque on a screw to get it loose and with those cheap ones I had the “bit” came loose in the handle.
Not sure how much hep this will be but, I have to have these types of bits at work, much of our machinery is manufactured in Germany and they love to use security hex screws.
I have a couple of sets and both from the same place. Both were very reasonably prices. Here are links for both. I hope this helps.
As little as I paid for those 2 sets I really thought they would be in the trash by now. I was wrong... Both sets are holding up very well and gets used quite often.
