If you get a cryos head make sure to get a bezel and a lens with it.
I, uh, probably won’t be putting one of those together anytime soon, as much as I’d love to $293 pretty much eliminates me on that one, not even including the drop in, emitters, driver or lens.
You nailed that one Dale and that was the reason I kept asking Ven a number of times if I was buying precisely the right pieces for a L2T, just the Cu head at Cryos is $93, no bezel, no glass and no host, no switch, just beautifully machined Cu, and now I see that Jaxman just came out with the new Hunter X6 with side switch for under what the Cryos head alone costs, quit the frustration for me, I love that Cu for sure but I might have to hold off a month at least, I’ve got to get that new Jaxman X6
Christmas looms nigh and I’ve just spent too much on my last build, my new avatar shows that one lit up… spent $88 for the cells alone on this last light!
Maybe my tax return will let me go Cryos…
I had noticed your new avatar but didn’t give it any thought until you now mention it, what the heck, a quad x quad with a single XHP70 or 50 in the middle.?
Can’t even begin to imagine how $88 worth of cells would figure into one of your builds except it must be a beast… very interesting just looking at the avatar, have you posted anything about this build yet…??
T18, yes OR is oveready, the one to suit the L2T size wise would be the z44 size at $82 . The z32(or M2) is a little large and really better suited for a 26650 sized body. The cu is weighty as to be expected, the z32 will certainly give a little too much weight( along with p60 engine) to the head. The cryos bezels do come into their own though, when using p60’s with 2000lm or more outputs. Or simply just running at 1000lm type outputs for decent duration’s.
The cu are on the pricey side for sure, the natural z44 cryos for $50 is more reasonable. These look good on the natural C2 body for example. Also makes for a lighter flashlight overall , V’s the cu head and stainless L2T body. Its not one for the pocket anyway haha. Certainly not one to be dropped on the toes either
The z32/c2 combo with triad tail is one of my fav lights, but next to some it positively huge/bulky or too much for EDC
I can swap the E1e head for a tana 219b h17f triple and have more than enough output(granted limited to 16340 fuel with this body, but using the E2e size, 16650 closes the fuel tank gap).
Bezel ring wise, here the z32(m2) has an OR ring, the others (z44) have xeno bezel rings. These are decent quality and notably cheaper than OR rings. HK equipment have been my source , they might still have some.
xhp70 SD in the z32 from our very own adventure flashlight(Matt)
xeno other than the 3rd along(this is a plain seraph but i heat treated it). Others xeno for z44 fitment
Your welcome, use any pics you want
Dale, i love it! i have a baby version in my avatar, this was a special build from vinh a few years back. Based on the acebeam x40, triple quad xpl with the infinite control ring. Its sure a hefty beast, the solid cu heat sink weighs some alone. No scales , but its over a 2lb light
There are 2 in the world, well the other is actually a little different so really its a one off(both based on the x40)
Nice guys. I am liking SF. Why are the cryos heads so steep? Also, What P60 drop ins will produce 3000 - 4000 lumens with decent throw?
Presumably because they are custom and not mass produced……….presume.
For that type of output, you would need a quad set up or something like an xhp70/xhp70.2 which would need 2x 18350 cells. The p60 is limited due to size of reflector, with the oslon your looking around 85kcd but less than 600lm. A quad xpl HI would get you around 30kcd and close to 3000lm. P60’s are fun, but not the best for throw or flood or anything too crazy IMO.
My older CQvn which is a quad xp-g2 5000k, really still impresses me. Would say near 2000lm ish, reaches out a good way as well.
The c2 with the xhp70 SD in, is around 3000-4000lm depending on fuel(fed on 2x 18350 ,2x 18650 or 2x 26650, latter will give more output). This is more flood bias, but can light a decent size field up.
Depends really on what decent throw means and what type of use you have in mind.
I, uh, went a little overboard. Yes, Quad Quad with a de-domed SST-40 in the center under a reflector. These are D4S Noctigon quads with the Angie from Ledil on top, and a mix of emitters to get a good blend of power and tint. On 4 Samsung 25S cells it starts at 25,427 lumens, 22,700 at 30 seconds. Sofirn Q8 is the base of it, with a 4” 6061 head added and blended into the space where the reflector once sat. Sofirn is supposed to be making battery tubes with carriers that will stack in parallel so I’ll use 2 carriers and 8 cells, but I have 4 of these spoken for and 16 30Q’s arrived the other day… $88 worth of em! With 4 cells it weighs in at 3 lbs 2 oz. Anduril firmware on the original driver gives me candlelight and lightning modes, 4 slaves run each of the quad’s independently, so it’s virtually 5 drivers.
Since I was trying to inspire Sofirn to think outside the box I’ve listed most of the info and pics on djozz’s Sofirn Q8 thread that they asked him to start.
I have something on the way to fill the triangular spaces left blank that are between the optics on the perimeter, brass cartridges from Starline in a new custom caliber that fits this light to a T…
I was once picking up the slack for MattAus on a Solarforce S1100 build utilizing a large aspheric, Bucket did the heat sink with press fit copper main sink and a raised pillar to focus the emitter with the aspheric but it had issues and I ended up with it, still couldn’t get it going right as the aspheric wasn’t really optimum for the build so I sent it to MEM who was going to get it right via 3D printing, then MEM fell off the Earth…
WOW Dale, amazing stuff. Love the contrast with the bare al head as well
I’ve done some anodizing before but with inconsistent results. I would hate to spend all the time I spent on this and end up pitting it or ruining the 0.5mm threads on the bezel.
I am thinking of putting two 10mm Carclo TIR’s with Nichia 219C’s in the two blank spaces and use the brass rifle cartridges to cover the wires. The headstamp on the cartridges is .458 HAM’R… 4 quads, 5 drivers, 8 cells. And it Hammer’s! LOL Makes me laugh thinking, every time I double click Turbo, it’s HAMMER Time!
Ven I can’t thank you enough for the amount of time you’ve spent explaining all that you have, along with the pictures which really helped to clear things up in my mind, just spectacular Thank you so much,
Many of the pictures I downloaded are really only for my own wish lists or future ideas of what I really like in the looks of a light, I posted the one at the beginning of this thread and I think that is what sort of got this Cryos head talk going and then the learning teaching session,
I’m more of the type of flashaholic that goes for looks first, I could care less what’s inside at purchase generally speaking because I can always change it, that’s why I joined this group, to learn how to change the performance of the lights I already had and now it’s just completely out of hand I think.
I did a count of the lights I could find early last year and it was over 300, since then, short of giving a few away, I’ve only kept on buying so now it is absolutely out of hand, especially after it was brought to my attention while trying to do an estate plan and I was asked about what I intended to do with my million flashlights,
I had no answer, but I suppose it did really look sort of weird when I look at all the lights sitting around and I think from a regular persons perspective, very weird.
Dale that light is just over the top wild, I think you should name it “458 HAM’R”, like you said it’s hammer time, I can only imagine.
I still would like you Dale to build my Rey Ti X6, I am still patiently waiting ha ha ha…. I’ll bet you forgot.
Just think of all the new technology since I first asked if you’d build that light for me, boost drivers at Mt. for one, all sorts of new ideas since the last time you built one of these lights, I think you built all of them frankly, all 5 of them…? Sort of a rare light to have.
5 lights was the count Rey gave me for how many he actually shipped, he did sell some pieces so someone might have pieced one together down the years.
Anyhow… Thank you again Ven you are just awesome, I’ll post a picture of whatever I finally turn up with, sure do love that Cu. and I am building a shelf queen no doubt about that so not fooling myself any. Thanks again…
Man, I forget pretty much everything… usually within minutes if not seconds!
Sure wish I’d thought to flame color my Ti X6 before gluing in the trit vials. ugh…
I was just joking with you about forgetting because I already knew that your forgetful as am I, very much so,
As matter of fact I forgot I even had that X6 host until just recently while going through my brown box room.
I have a couple pictures of your flame job on that X6 and you did beautiful work, I kept those pictures because it was just so outstanding,
Mine has all the trits as well but then there’s the idea of maybe just removing all the trits one way or the other and starting over, might be easy to get those trits out with your blow torch, something would happen I’m sure … ha ha … I wonder if trits explode…?
Maybe this coming year I can get with you if your up to it and perhaps we can come up with some ideas, flaming that host would be nice for sure,
Sure would like to think up something for that tail piece, it’s so bland looking to me, maybe more trit slots, not sure how hard it is to put grooves in Ti even with your lathe, if it ’s easy it would look nice if there were rings around that one part of the tail switch, beats me, that’s why I came to you, I have no clue what would be great.
I’ve also thought about those new RMM boost drivers and making something out of this X6 that hasn’t been done yet,
I know if anyone can come up with an idea that would be completely new and never done before it would be you, that is why I will wait until heck freezes over before I let anyone work on that host, it’s just to rare and it’s something that can’t be messed up, you are the master of this particular host for sure.
I’ll get in touch with you after the holidays and see if we can work something out or if your even interested, Thanks Dale…!
Welcome T18,anytime Good luck with the shelf queen, look forward to some pics when completed.
Even a shelf queen needs to come off and get use, i have took most of mine in work to use at some point. Old pic as been at home for a few years now.
If I remember correctly I made a new copper pill for my Ti X6 and used XHP-50’s in it, or 50.2’s, not sure (just cracked it open and checked, 50.2’s on a T-Pad, yeah), but I remember that it makes something over 10,000 lumens when you fire it up and it’s just mind boggling coming from such a smallish light. I have a Khatod optic, triple, over a Cutter MCPCB I think. Been a while, not sure of much anymore. lol
So I have my original pill (with Nichia 219C’s I think) and again, if I remember it right, it was making over 4000 lumens and drawing some 21A from a single 18650. I’ll have to pull it out of the file box, I think it’s a quad.
I don’t know that the Boost driver’s would fare well with a multi-emitter set-up, so it might take something else or a different set-up, it’s getting to where there’s more options all the time and frankly, it’s tough to keep up with. Should be able to fix it up, I don’t know about flaming out the Trit’s but could probably figure something out. Not sure I could save them though as they do tend to be pretty fragile. I lost one of the big ones on mine when I was testing it at the big lumens, guess it overheated. I have a replacement for it but haven’t ever got around to doing it. Keep forgetting, if you can believe that. lol
May have to put the Ti X6 with it’s Trits back as my Avatar, the new light in there doesn’t even look real somehow.
Y’all are killin me with the pics! I just found out that the SS L2T is on sale for $32 for Black Friday! And of course the M3 still catches my eye, especially on an L2T body, also on sale for $32, I just can’t, I can’t, I better not, I won’t… aaaaaghhhhh…….
Hey Dale, I feel you man. With so many lights coming I have to be careful and not go nuts buying up everything. I do however like the lights you mentioned.
BTW, Do you have any P60 drop in with high puts for sale?
I will have to buy the SS version and M3 for sure due to looks. But want to be useful on occasion though.
Please advise. Thanks
Well I really can’t thank you enough Ven and you know that light looks so familiar, Scoobynet…?
Your everywhere pal … ha ha
