I want to mod the stock Fenix P1D XR-E twistie with something more powerful, XP-G is good but XM-L would be better and need a driver that can work only with 3 volts frpm a 123A battery (Li-ion RCR’s are too big to fit) need at least 1 amp to the led and at least 3 modes (L,M,H) and no strobes or flashies, memory of last mode would be icing on the cake
Do you know something I can use? I would like a driver like the one the Eagletac D25CM Ti is using to drive its XM-l, any ideas as to where I can find one?
I realize this is a not-so-recent-thread but the Dx 7612 has 3 x 7135 chips for 1A and will work down to 2.7v. Can set mode for low-med-high with switch and has memory. Other 7135 boards from Illumination Supply, Kaidomain and others. The Vf of an XML is pretty low at 1A (<3v) so it should work fine but run time on high might be limited with 1 cell. The Kaidomain V2 1A boards have solder pads that can be jumpered for LMH and memory. You can get a bit more time if you remove the input reverse polarity diode and replace it with a jumper. See this thread for info.
Hi Match, the cell Alex mentioned starts at ~3.3v or ~3v nominal and at 1A an XML has a Vf lower than 3v but you’re saying it still won’t work even without the reverse polarity diode? Could he use a 16340 instead?
Thanks for the replies, will check them out, the host P1D doesn’t take Li-ion but since its an emergency light and seldom used, I’ll just use regular 3v 123’s
No worries, sometimes I mess up, but...I just did a quick check to confirm:
A fresh CR123 primary will pass 200ma of current through an XM-L direct drive. Putting anything other than a boost circuit in there will only lower that amount.
Again...for primaries, look at a good boost circuit like the one above.
