Not perfect but on more than one occasion I've run both on high till the cell protection kicked in with no ill effects. I've had both since they were released and they do see use - mostly when I'm out of town. My back door light these days is a 2D (KD D cells) ROP
So here's some shots with a pair of P60 dropins I have. The DX one is an MC-E which I use quite a lot. The KD one is a mystery device - I ordered an XP-G R5 dropin and got this quad die instead. The LED looks different from the one in the DX MC-E dropin so it may be a P7 or something else. Will take some closeups when I can borrow a better camera. The DX is a 3 mode - high, low, flashing. The KD Mystery Dropin is a 5 mode which goes high, strobe, SOS, low, medium and appears to have no mode memory. Very, very strange!
DX Low
DX High
KD Low
KD Medium (By eye I could see no difference between medium and high -the camera could)
KD High
As you can see, the KD one is way brighter than the DX one. Must find out what sort of dropin it is.
The KD Mystery Dropin is on the left, the DX one on the right.
The KD one had a very long positive spring and wouldn't tailstand which is why it is sandwiched between a pair of cigarette packets to make it stand up. The LED looks very different from the MC-E in the DX dropin.
Hey Alfred what's the model of the light above and is this the one you say is brighter than the Nitecore? I've been looking at the nitecore for some time but can't really justify the high price are there any alternatives that are of equivalent brightness for its size ?
I dont have an extreme so thats why i got this one.....Smallsun also makes a version of that light and so does Ultrafire. If you take a look at my review this sucker is bright on cr123 cells and even brighter on rcr's. Theres also one that uses a single AA or one rcr.....basically the same light except its longer. My review here..... http://budgetlightforum.cz.cc/node/49 has great pics and some awesome beamshots. But i would prefer in getting a Romi since out of the other budget lights they seem to be well made, hence i have had my first RC-N3 Q5 for almost 2 years now and its still lighting up.
I just picked up a Romisen RC-N3 Q5 from Shiningbeam and have to say that I'm very impressed with the light output. I don't know too much about flashlights as I just started getting into them, but I had read on other forums about this light being very reliable and good quality for a rather cheap light. I just have the single mode version of the light and would like to buy another light that has more than one mode and even more output. Any recommendations?
Preferably, I wouldn't mind something up to two 18650's capacity wise, any brand is okay, I'd like to stay below $40-50 dollars, I had been looking at some of the p7's on deal extreme, though I don't know how reliable they are. I read on another forum about the skyray S-R5 XPG-R4 rated at 320 Lumens was putting out more than p7's. And I don't mind buying from anyone. I don't really need the light for a month or longer.
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1317 There’s a lot going for the Ultrafire WF-500. Bulbs are cheap and readily available and the bigger head lets it throw well. Available well inside your budget.
Some of the new XP-G R5 lights are around 350 lumens at the emitter - about 70% of that will make it out the front - this is true for all lights. The ratings given on the like of DealExtreme, KaiDomain and the like are the theoretical maximum that that grade (bin) of emitter (LED) can manage. Expect to get 65-70% of that out the front of the light.
Well made, the bodywork is completely identical to the Ultrafire WF-504B which you can find reviews of here and here. Since these are P60 dropin lights, the dropin can be swapped for something more suited to your needs if you want.
Just wanted to say welcome...glad you like your N3. Don's already posted some links to some nice lights, so check them out and please read the reviews if there are any.
thanks Don, I had actually looked the ultrafire wf-500 and saw a youtube video of it being used... That is a light I was looking up for a day or two now... I would be really interested in this light, though I have heard that the bulbs burn out quickly and it might not be the most reliable light.
I was wondering if you think the L2's will put out much more light than the Romisen RC-N3 Q5 that I have? I can't remember the exact lumen rating... I think it was 190-210 lumens which I know you said it will probably be putting out about 60-70 percent of that.
Depending on the driver it should.....the N3 is bright on 3.7volt rcrs but it looks like the L2 are using newer emitters Cree R5 and hey you can use an 18650 and two rcr's.
that is good to know.. I'm leaning toward's the L2 as it seems like it would be better suited for what I want to use it for (hiking/camping) I think the T5 and T6 might be more than what I would ever need. Do you know if the L2 has a good flood of light? How would you compare it to the Ultrafire wf-500. and which of the two do you think is more reliable?
Sorry you might wanna wait til Don chimes in.......since i dont own either. The biggest light i have is my ITP C6t with an op reflector, i really dont dig the beam profile of smooth reflectors. It does put out a wall of light though and is my dedicated outdoor light.
Sorrry for all the questions, I'm still new to all this... I saw above from Don, that the L2 can accept "drop ins" I've seen other posts with people talking about drop ins... does this simply mean that you can buy something like this: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.6076
Is there anything involved in doing something like this besides unscrewing the top lens and putting it in? and if I were to buy the L2 and buy a drop in for it, what drop in is better than the one that the light comes with? are there "better" drop ins, or do drop ins just change the beam? I'm sorry for being such a newbie. I appreciate everyone's patience with me.
Dude thats why we join forums....nothing like reading and learning excellent information right. Yes you are correct all you do is drop it in, they make some meager to powerful ones depending on the voltage. There was a time that every member here didnt know much about lights.
alfreddajero... how much does the itp c6 run for and where can it be purchased? I don't see if on DX's website. good wall of light would probably be good in the woods... moreso than a light with a tight beam.
Getting on for double at a guess. If it isn't raining I'll nip out the back and do some beamshots. I don't have the Romisen but I'll use one of my brighter Q5 lights and compare it.
Here you go:
Control shot
Ultrafire C3 Q5 Stainless Steel. This is a 5 mode light - this is on max output
Uniquefire L2. Again a 5 mode light (There is a single mode available) again on max output
This is the Uniquefire R5 (But I cooked the original dropin) with a DX XP-G R5 dropin
Both of the XP-G R5 dropins are pushing out a lot more light than any Q5. Unfortunately my aim with the L2 was a bit off as I was aiming it at the tree 15m (say 45-50 feet) away. They also show rather clearly that it's time I went out there in daylight and picked up the dog's outputs. Didn't bother while there was snow on the ground and there's more due tomorrow...
