Actually the knurling ain’t too bad, I just like the very small size of it, and even at 1400 mA (4*7135 w/ a XP-G2 T6-4C) it throws a decent amout of light, and at that current level, even on high the small 18350 should run comparable to a much larger 18650 at 2x the current w/o the heat problem
did you upgraded it to xp-g2 emitter? how nice compared to xm-l2 ver?
and is it safe to use rechargeable 16340 li-ion battery?
Simon, do you know if the 18350 body fits your current stock of 18650 s2+’s?
I think it comes stock with a XM-L2…mine has the nice silver XM-L2 T6-4C in it
the 18350 would fit better, it’s designed for it, a 16340, you might need to wrap a strip of electrical tape around the battery or it would be loose…not sure about the CR123 version though…might be thicker walled

Looks like you need an extra 12mm in length in the battery compartment to fit an 18500.
I think this should be possible without removing the switch. You’ll need to do the following modifications:
- File down the top 1/2 of the pill threads. This will let the pill screw into position without the need for a spacer (when used with a Carclo triple TIR and Noctigon). Pretty easy to do with a handfile and an hour’s time. This should gain around 7-8 mm.
- File down the back of the pill. The pill itself is quite long and leaves a lot of empty space inside the light. Discard the driver retaining ring…. it won’t work with a BLF17DD anyways. Then file down the back of the pill. This should get another 5mm. The trick will be to still leave enough threads for the pill to actually screw in, since the threads at the top are being filed flush, while the bottom is being filed off. The driver likely won’t have a socket to mount in. Instead just glue it onto the end of the filed down pill and then solder a wire for negative contact. The pill is brass, so it solders easily.
- Consider removing the driver spring. RMM’s BLF17DD comes with a very nice driver spring with solder braid pre-installed. Unfortunately there probably won’t be enough room for it. Instead make a flat contact out of a copper post or a couple pieces of copper sheet cut into disks and soldered into position.
All these mods should be possible with just a handfile and several hours of time. No machine tools should be needed. When my second light arrives, I think I’ll try the above mods on it.
All the modifications mentioned above +
- Switch removal,* ~12mm*
- Add spring-less negative contact plate
- Leave stock rubber boot in place to retain water resistance
Can a 18650 fit in there?
Or 2x 18350 for the world’s smallest MT-G2 semi-mule… that’d be awesome. Instead of opening up the reflector, it can be sand down from the bottom, up to half in height for 6mm extra.
