I recently won a Shadow TC300 XM-L2 at an incredible price at wallbuys instant kill It still hasn’t arrived, but i want to make it my kind of a masterpiece flashlight. Perhaps after that i won’t build any other (this might not be true )
As I’ve seen it is the “budget level” of Shadow flashlights, it has the lowest price, the least o-rings and the ugliest color
But for almost the price of a Convoy C8 i bought it
My questions are for those who have used other Shadow brand lights, as i couldn’t find any reviews on this model.
Is the tc300 same internally at the more expensive TC6? From pics they appears to be the same size, but no one confirmed it.
The tc6 uses c8 style reflectors as far as i know, so as the tc300? Is it true to the 42mm lens?
If it has OP reflector, i’ll replace to SMO, as well as an AR coated lens, put a sinkpad in, maybe replace the driver with a more flexible, and higher performance one, changes like this.
Only Cereal_killer has done an MT-G2 mod with it, but he doesn’t include much pictures
I’d be glad if you could help with some info, i am eager to start ordering parts for it
At the time I just tested the MT-G2 for the first time and I wanted to demonstrate that the MT-G2 could be run direct drive on two 18650 cells, so there is no driver in it (it runs at more than 8A on good cells). It turned out that the MT-G2 works very well with the OP reflector of the tc300, it gives a very smooth beam with a large but distinct hotspot and lots of spill. I still like it so much that at some point I will put in a zener modded 17DD driver in it for lower modes (these great drivers were not developed back in 2013). Btw, I like the ultra-matt dark brown anodising very much!
I am also very keen on that BIG-BIG led, but i think it isn’t the type of host and price point that would be the most useful.
Perhaps one day i’ll convert it, but i am looking for a more “real life practical” approch, that wont burn away, or drain the batteries in seconds, with mode modes
At about 3-4Amps the mt-g2 doesn’t have as much advantage in lumens output than drawback in throw imho, plus it is not cheap.
Perhaps a domed xm-l2, or xp-l will do the trick better for my purpose.
Did you test the original driver? Can it be overdriven, or what is the diameter of it to raplace?
What about the lens?
Just a warning my stock tc300 driver was glued in so well there was absolutely zero chance of getting it out to do a simple emitter swap, if you plan to mod this light in any way plan to do a complete driver swap and note for a 3v emitter you’ll need a buck driver, that’s why the MT was so appealing.
I ran mine at 11.5A but honestly that was to much for such a small light. It’ll probably do about 6-7A (on high) comfy.
I received it yesterday, and i am WAY not impressed with it.
The anodizing looks great, it is a lot darker than on the pictures, but the treads are sh*t, can’t remove the emitter retaining ring, the o-rings are either small or tooo big. The OP reflector is worse than a stock convoy c8. AND it is totally not water resistant, nowhere to ipx-8.
I am actually afraid of even disassemble it, because it took at least 20 mins to get the oring back at the bezel, it was protruding all time.
I made some pictures for a mini-review, but i think most of youare aware what i am afraid of.
In fact it is different than djozz’s so i’ll post that pictures. Maybe it is an updated version?
