Now, seriously, it’s leather laminated with epoxy.
It’s the first try so of course it’s not perfect, but I’m quite satisfied (more than with the actual knife, the Wave opener is something absolutely useless to me as even dual thumb studs like to open up when I get the knife out of my pocket.
Above you see the raw material, glued stripes of leather made to repeair faux leather heels. Funny thing is that now when I look at it it’s the same idea as my 90deg turned carbon fiber as they had to glue thick croupond leather and then cut it into thin sheets.
I don’t like the light stripes on the surface, that’s where the epoxy didn’t soak in totally I guess. If i’d ever do that again I’d use the vaccuum method for it like they do it for orthopedic casts on job.
I was thinking about the other direction but didn’t like it back then.
Maybe with the right knife I’d do so.
Hmm, thinking about it, probably it would look good on the Fox Deimos I’ve got to make scales for.
Such a leather insert would look best with bolsters to match with a Ka-Bar, maybe raw un-woven cf or Micarta.
Great, just as if not enough ideas are running through my head already.
They are even chasing each other and don’t let me sleep.
Btw, soon there will be a new Enlan EL01D with that cf variant of mine without a “bolster” like on the last one
