I’ve been seeing several single AAA lights with what looks like an XPE led, like the Hugsby and Skywolfeye and some Olight i3 lookalike, is there really such light with XPE led that’s below $5? Those would be great gift this coming holiday season, I want to buy those.
I can almost Guarantee the Skywolfeye will not have a genuine Cree emitter.
The fake i3 (SmallSun) is not a bad light. I have one and replaced the emitter and driver a while back. Cant recall 100% if the emmitter was real Cree… but I replaced it for a reason.
It’s not for all people brightness the #1 priority in such a small light.
When you’re in a complete dark environment , the high CRI nichia is very “smooth” in the eye , colors are better etc etc . The xpe , especially if it is cool white , it’s the complete opposite.
The Cree XP-E has a 2.2 times smaller die than the Nichia 219B, so it will give a clearer hotspot that is brighter. For such a small light that is a plus for many folks.
When in the dark with your night vision one needs very little light. What I use a flashlight for is to see in poor light, such as leaving church at night, and looking in dark areas of a cabinet. The tint or rendition of colors is of no importance. I prefer the longer run time and the hot spot.
The other day my wife had lost an earring in the house. We could not see it on the carpet. I used my light and it brought the item out easily.
I realize that flashaholics are particular about colors of the beams and shape of the beam. I, like most folks, just use a flashlight to see better in poor light or at night.
I appreciate the reply.
I received a batch of 6x fake Hugsby AAA lights - can anyone help identify the best sub $3 single AAA light? The SF-348 looks interesting, but it’s $4.50 and also looks awfully slippery. I know cheaper lights are tough to find with good quality. I could live with $4.50 but I prefer some better grip/knurling if possible. Thanks!
That’s true. I think the fake Hugsby were 3.50-4.00 each, but I don’t really remember. I could live with SF-348 prices, except would much prefer some grip
I’ve heard of people having good luck with tomtop (see discussion here). They’ve got good prices on groups of what should be genuine Hugsby XP-1’s, works out to be just over $4 each.
