I have been watching this site for a while now, but decided to register to share and get some more info. I bought SKYRAY S-A1 - http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.33544 after seeing drop in price on DX and after reading this review: http://forum.fonarevka.ru/showthread.php?p=4616&language=en . I already have c30 - http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.18697 , which is a little unpractical due to the 3xAAA (I only have 2 channel charger), but im happy with it - very bright for my standards...
In review of SKYRAY S-A1 author measured current draw from 14500 on high 1.55A - which is more than 6W :O (atp 3 upgrade goes crazy on li-ion too) . I know that probably the light isnt usable more than a minute (probably gets too hot) , but Im sold on so much power from such a small package. Anyways I now need 14500 charger (with posibility to charge other li-ion batteries) + 14500 batteries - any suggestions?
I will do a short review (current draw, some pics...) of SKYRAY S-A1 when i get it (in two weeks time)...
I have two of them here... not as bright as the Hugsby P31/P32 on Eneloop NiMH, but bright enough and they have a very nice beam quality ... no rings and the tints are a lot warmer than the Hugsby's... nice defined hotspot. Build quality is also very impressive, nothing rattles if you shake it. You can look forward to receiving them, they seem like very well-made flashlights. I think I have to over-think my position on XP-Es in a AA form factor. They actually seem quiet nice with the right reflector. They can't tailstand, but mode memory works very good (real memory) and the crenelation isn't annoyingly sharp. Overall recommended - but I like the Hugsby better, since it is brighter on NiMH , can tailstand and has a clip.
Thx for reply. I was thinking about Hugsby P31/P32, but decided to go with Skyray - since it was 9,52$ delivered on DX. Did you try Skyray S-A1 on li-ion too or just on ni-mh?
I got it today. Good quality and finish, but I am a little disappointed with light output/current draw:
high: 0,66A (on ni-mh and alcaline)
medium: 0,31A
low: 0,07A
That is nowhere near 2A that "I" was advertising. Will try with li-ion once I get it. I am hoping for a big improvement, because this is just too low for my ussage.
I really have no luck with ordering... Couple of months ago I ordered 3 BLF delights, after seeing good reviews here. Well I got funny smelling lights with candle like output - current draw was 0,11A from 1,2V ni-mh
Then you got immense misfortune... just measured 2 of them ... one is pulling 2.0 and the other one 2.1 amps out of a fresh Eneloop. I can understand your disappointment. Even on medium they are pulling 0.8-0.9 A .
