I went ahead and ordered 4 of these batteries but I am curious about the HD designation. Will these out perform say, a set of 3500 mah effest 26650’s? They are rated at 32 amps from the factory. So 25 would be realistic.
It’s easy, the BLF Edition has not been designed or built, yet.
There shouldn’t be a big difference in the two. Same driver, same dual BeCu springs, same 7,000 lumen, same UI. The difference will be the 5350K-5700K leds which are taking longer to get and possibly a little more throw by using a SMO reflector.
One area I’m not sure on is whether this first version will have some glue to hold the driver in place. The driver is held in place by the battery tube screwed into it so if you unscrew the battery tube the driver would kind of hang out and be loose. This muggles version might have glue to hold it still and the BLF edition would be no glue. It might even have a retaining ring. I need to get clarification on this.
Even with glue, I hope the driver can be easily popped out if pushed from above.
I converted my L6 to a fully adjustable setup. I used longer cap screws to hold down the mcpcb. Then cut out the bottom of the reflector. Then I used shims near the bezel to adjust the reflector height. This way I could experiment by moving the reflector much lower than normal.
This is a bit extreme and going much lower then stock (like 0.5mm) didn’t give any gains. So with the SP70 I’ll probably focus in shimming the reflector up and down by modifying the led centering/insulator ring. First, you want to make sure the wire connectors are soldered nice and flat, then add some kapton tab to the reflector bottom to insulate it, just in case. Then I can shim up with these donut shaped stickers I have or shim down by sanding the centering/insulator ring.
In the end, I found it kind of silly to find the max throw distance because the beam didn’t look very nice. In the real world I decide a nice looking beam was more important than a few percent longer throw which is not even noticable to the naked eye.
The batteries that come with the charger are the regular non-high drain 26650 that Sofirn have been selling for a while now.
The Sofirn 21700 cells just barely fit. A different brand of 21700 may or my not fit due to very tiny differences in length. The dual spring setup is great for low resistance, but it does limit the amount of total spring compression. Your welcome to try 21700 cells, but they’re not guaranteed to fit.
Make sure you message Sofirn on Aliexpress with your BLF member name so they can lower the price to 50 USD as Jason said above there is no coupon system on Ali to give us a direct discount so some one has to lower the price manually.
Yea that’s without GST. You can probably message Sofirn and ask for a shipping discount i do it to Simon (Convoy) all the time get him to combine shipping.
I really don’t know. These have not been tested by anyone other than Sofirn. They say SP70 output is similar to their 21700 4000mah so that’s pretty good. I could guess and say they might be pretty similar to the Liitokala 5000mah.
I used HKJ’s comparator between the Efest 3500 and Liitokala black at 10A and 15A. The curves are almost identical except for the bottom voltage range where the Efest drops off much sooner.
They sourced these new high drain batteries mainly for the people who have trouble buying batteries in their particular country. Since you’re in the USA, there are a wide variety of good batteries available.
Hmm, Tracy said just yesterday she did not know when the lights would ship. If they really did ship 24 hours later I think she would have said something like “In the next few days”, “this week”, etc…
Even the sample light they are sending me is not supposed to ship until next Weds.
It should be a normal light, but I think Tracy did say she would have them leave off the driver glue so I could easily pull out the driver and check it out.
I guess we will find out later if they have actually shipped some lights.
This is definitely not the well planned launch of the light I had imagined. I have not been given key information. Oh well, hopefully it will all work out.
