SOLD OUT: Aspherical lens adapter for HD2010 ! ))))))))

yeah the lack of beam shots is killing your sales, IMO. If there was a beam shot I might buy a few and I dont even own a HD2010 yet

Beamshots do not add much IMO, and there's no magic here: Cree led+lens=square hotspot, no spill. Lens looks well curved and is 50mm diameter, so expect a hotspot a bit smaller and brighter than that from the Uniquefire T20 (32mm lens). The HD2010 is going to be very impressive with this lens!

There are plenty, but that section of the internet appears to be above your clearance level.

Does anyone else have trouble ordering form DX? I tried to order 3 of the lenses plus a few other items using bulkrate but the prices in the cart are higher than listed on the product page. Small order so I just ordered singles for now but still had a lot of trouble paying. Had to try 3 browsers to complete payment.

I grabbed some mag lenses from DX, smooth transaction using chrome. It’s almost a month after shipping though. :\

I will try to get some beam shots this evening when I get home from work. I should have my light engine done later today :)

Will these work with XM-L and XM-L2 emitters or only XP-G?

A beamshot would be nice, but for me, not as important as the performance. Currently my vob copper pill'd HD2010 throws about 230 kcd, so getting 180 kcd is a step down. Of course the comparison must be apples to apples, so not sure what exact config. you measured 180 kcd from - XML, XM-L2, de-domed, amps?

Mine is 5A measured at the tail, de-domed XM-L2 U2 1A/Noctigon, AR lens.

Offroad,

XML, XPG, XPE, about any emitter will work. Using an aspherical lens you can achive about the same lux reading with any of the 3. With the larger die emitters like XML it just means you have to go with more current.

To fully max out the potential at one minute ( which I think is a good bench mark for realistic tests) here is roughly what you need.

XPE2 2.2A

XPG2 4.4A

XML2 6.0-6.2A

Using top bin emitters will net you ROUGHLY the same lux from each of these but MORE LIGHT with a LARGER DIE image as you go up in size and current.

Your clearly right that 180k would be a step down. I wrote that as a conservative estimate because I wanted to give a realistic idea of what can be done with simple modding.

I would call your light more like the exception rather than the rule. As far as HD2010 goes you may well be holding the raining champion in your hands.

I do still think that installing the aspherical would produce a gain in your light though. The reason being that I did a test earlier of the factory HD with reflector vs one with only the lens mod.

Factory HD 2010 @ 1 min 41,750

HD2010 with lens @ 1 Min 70,000

I did the test on both to get a best case scenario adjusting the beam to get the highest reading for each test. For the reflector base light right in the center gave the best, and for the aspherical it was near the outer edge.

I will have some more info on de-domed LEDs in this light shortly

Ahhhh, thanx Matt! That sounds much better.. I'll be ordering one this eve - 400 kcd HD2010 to be soon Smile.

wow, nice. makes me wish I wouldn’t have gotten rid of my HD2010. this was asked above, but where is the best place to get one now? I know there was a 2nd generation that wasn’t as good as the first, but if there are still good ones available I have to try this.

by the way, thanks for doing this, and making it so cheap for all of us!

Ok, here is what I got when I tested my personal light

XPE2 R3 dedomed on a sinkpad with the factory reflector. In order to get the LED to focus I had to machine the end off of my reflector so it would sit down all the way. Once that was done, within a few minutes I was able to focus it perfectly.

171,750

Using the Aspherical I got

205,500

Not quite what I wanted ( I was expecting 225-250) but still a measurable gain of 34,000 lux with the lens installed.

The best part is you wont even have to machine the end off your reflector to get it LOL!

I still like the TMART ones, unbranded or TangsFire. Got this coupon code yesterday for 10% off all flashlights: FL33.

Ok, here is my cameras best attempt at beam shots. For those of you who have not had the privilege of seeing an aspherical light in action believe me when I say these shots do it no justice.

On the garage door from about 30 feet.

Into the woods.

This is with my XPE2 de-dome, which I think is an excellent choice for this light because of the low voltage needed to accomplish this.

It creates a very very laser like beam. It reaches so far that it can be used almost like an astronomers laser pointer. If I point it toward a star everyone standing around will know which star we are talking about.

Another thing that really makes the beam POP vs a reflector is the elimination of about 90% of all side spill. This further enhances the clear sharp image being produced.

Any one who would like to is welcome to post beam shots here. I wont feel trumped at all. My camera might get a little squeamish though :)

Holy crap. :open_mouth:

Only you can prevent forest fires. Please don’t point that at dry timber.

Am I seeing a round hot spot? Does the de-dome show it round instead of the actual die pattern?

DBCstm,

I think the reason its looking a bit rounded just from the picture being bled out.

I suspected as much, the camera doesn’t like all the light in one tiny spot, doesn’t know how to expose for it.

Thanks for the beam shot porn.
