I was working on a metal detector I have had for some 20 years, and noticed the case it came in.
It’s like a small suitcase with cutouts in the foam for the various sections.
Has anyone ever done this for their lights? I thinking opening up a ‘suitcase’ with a dozen or so of your best lights would have a more or a wow factor than bringing out a box full of them.
I was thinking of trying this, just not sure foam rubber would stand up to my cutting skills, and would like it to look custom, not hacked to pieces.
I have also been wanting to do something like this for some time. I had looked at Pelican cases, and also the cases that Invicta sells for their watches looks like a good option too.
But, I am also stumped on what to use for foam/padding inside to make it look clean and professional
I always use Harbor Freight Aluminum cases for my lights and transporting them. Use a combo of foam underneath and in the lid. But I use sturdy foam rubber on the top inch or so. I use the black foam rubber they also sell for garage matts. Works very well and looks good I think. I have to keep redoing the cases many many times since I keep buying new lights or selling lights. The color bands are to help tell the difference easier between similar lights in the dark.
This is my latest setup as of this weekend -

A lot of the camera cases you can buy on Ebay have blocked foam, so you can just tear out the blocks where your lights go. It's a lot easier for those of us who don't feel comfortable cutting foam. I have ruined foam rubber, trying to cut it properly. My cases all have block foam in them now and I can just remove the blocks where I want my cameras or lights to fit into.
You can also buy the sections of blocked foam, so you can put it into cases you already have.
rdrfronty. May I please borrow your case? If it makes it easier I will borrow it full of whats in it. Thanks.
Hell, all he needs to do is just drive by here and drop it off at the front door.
Sorry guys but gotta hang on to that case AND the lights. Every light but the FF4 is modded. The X40vn just got added to the case last night.

Anyway, these cases do work really well. I live in the city, but head out to a family country house every weekend. Gotta take my lights with me, especially since the country is a much better flashlight environment. Been taking this case with a combo of various lights in it for every weekend on the 1.5hr round trip for almost two years now. I’ve never had a light get a scratch and the case itself is holding up awesome. It is a pain to cut out the foam rubber each time I have to rearrange the setup, but I have to protect my “babies” and its kinda fun doing it anyway.
And you probably handcuff the case to yourself when you’re transporting it
I will be going there and checking out what they have. Thanks…
you happen to have link to case @ harbor freight, thanks mate.
This is what I do. P60 and 2xAA lights will also fit vertically. I use the same 1600 for most of my knives and flashlights, but if you have smaller lights and/or a smaller collection, a smaller size box would obviously be better. Until I can get a photo, this video will have to suffice. Not me, btw. I have purchased most of mine from Optics Planet, they will usually have one color that is cheaper than the others, so if are not picky, you can save a little money.
They do have a few different sizes and styles. The link for the case I use -

Do you have any links as example? I tried to search in both Aliexpress and Ebay but I cannot find any, don’t know what keywords should I use.
i have 4 cases, here is the smallest one, ( i bought them at a local Costco outlet.) they are the aluminum camera-style hard cases.
Very nice and neat. How much did you pay for it?
That’s what I’m talking about. I’m still trying to figure out what size I need.
Bought the case from Harbor Freight, filled it, and bought another one today. I suck bad at fitting them in tho. Mine looks a bit mangled to me.
DJ cases would be nearly perfect for me if they weren't so expensive for the good ones.

But when I first looked at this thread, I thought "briefcase". Those might be less expensive, maybe a lot less expensive since they've gone out of style...
This is similar in size, style and pricing to the HF case.
Then there's the Halliburton rogue agent case for a cool $2500. Give your lights the best protection while you're selling out.
Only $2,500? Sign me up for 10.
$2500? The vehicle I drive isn’t worth $2500… Espionage must pay really well.
I was going to wait till I got another 5-6 lights and redo the case I already had so both cases would look better, but perforated, pick and pluck, whatever… foam is really expensive. So I guess I won’t.
