Fasttech.com is selling it for $121.00 USD and it looks like a super quality light but at only 300 lumens max, it is really worth the $121 price tag? Even being titanium is it worth it? I've never owned a titanium light and always wanted a Sunwayman but there are cheaper options and ones with the infinite variable control ring while this is stepped modes only with the ring. Not sure I can justify such a purchase but am looking for feedback from those that have/had one.
i saw that too… i really like that and the v11r mirage. i really want a piece of titanium in my collection
i think something like a titanium edc really comes down to if you think its worth it. some people will think it is, some people will think your stupid for spending that cash on it…
JM check out the eagletac d25a and d25c clicky titanium models if you are looking for a cheaper TI light… they are about $66 on amazon and i have seen them on some other sites (dont remember which) for $61
Titanium to me is just a way to dress up a light… it makes it heavier too… i dont really see what all the fuss is about, but i guess if its in your pocket you wouldnt have to worry about the anno wearing off right?
that and for the same size piece, titanium is lighter and stronger than stainless, and im pretty sure it has better thermal properties (could be wrong on the last part)
sorry, havent owned anything like that so can give any real advice on it
actually its the other way aluminum is better for dissipating heat - i did not know this myself until recently - i looked it up because i was considering a eagletac d25a ti
Structurally stronger than the same volume of aluminum.
It will scratch, but because the surface is solid, the scratches blend in well and can be buffed out. Titanium is softer than anodizing layer of aluminum but is harder than the bare aluminum underneath. Scratches in anodized aluminum tend to look awful because the anodizing layer is usually different from the bare aluminum underneath making the scratches really stand out.
Disadvantages compared to aluminum:
Much more expensive.
Heavier - I find the weight fine for a small EDC such as an Eagletac D25c, but for a larger light the weight difference is quite noticeable. This could be an issue if you’re planning on carrying it a lot.
Doesn’t conduct heat as well - for lights that push the envelope and generate a lot of heat, aluminum is much better at conducting that heat away from the emitter.
Titanium on titanium Screw threads can feel gritty. Not usually an issue except for twist lights. Aluminum threads tend to feel quite smooth.
My conclusion: Titanium looks and feels better in the hand, but aluminum is much more practical due to its lower cost, lighter weight and better thermal properties.
I don’t have SWM M11R but I do have EagleTac d25a clicky titanium…the quality on the EagleTac might not be high as SWM but for almost half the price can’t go wrong with d25a or d25c titanium.
That is a bummer about 16340 use as that is my preferred cell. My main desire is for an SWM with infinite control ring. I think I'll pass and wait for a deal on one with it titanium or not. I like the size of the MrElfin models and want something in a neutral tint. Thanks for the input, guys. :)
