Sunwayman V11R on Ebay, $18.99. 2 left.

Seller has them now at $29.99. The thrill is gone.

Well I have been debating this for a while and got bummed when I saw stock dry up and come back and I was away during the weekend so I missed the last of the 18.99 I saw it hit 20.99 and said OK, this is it and actually offered the guy 18.99 when it was at 20.99. He came back pretty fast at 19.99. I let it sit there for a bit and woke up this morning and saw the post it is 29.99. So I immediately hit accept offer and according to eBay I saved $10

The attractions to this light were two-fold the ui/ ring/ infinite brightness and it was one of the first really good sub lumen lights. It also came in ti and got modded hard by many custom light builders on CPF with mega trits, ti clips and costom bodies .

This light in titanium was always on my wish list....

You’re right it’s getting old and considering you’ll be able to soon buy a fw3A for 30$ ... Idk ...it’s a classic that never lost it’s appeal

I just got a call from Illumn wanting to make sure I really wanted the extender for the V11R. They were really confused by the sudden buying frenzy and asked if I knew that it was not a light. :person_facepalming: He had a list of names to call about this.

The main reason for me is it has always worked and the variable control ring. You can turn that little ring to give you just the right amount of light in any situation. Mine gets used a lot when taking pics of blf stuff. If there is part of a object that is not very lit up when your trying to take a photo or a shadow from your ceiling lights you can turn on the V11R and shine it on the object and adjust the light so it looks like natural sunlight with no shadows or over abundant light. You can adjust it until its the perfect amount of light. It works especially well if modded with a high CRI emitter. When you need .5 lumen to find the toilet at night its there, when you need 30 lumens to take a pic its at your finger tips, when you need 100 lumens to walk up the steps to your house or change a tire with out being blinded you got it. When you need 500 lumens to see what that noise is behind your house it’s at your finger tips. Its easy to use and adjust to just the amount of light you need. The V10Rti modded with a LH351D 4000k is my favorite light of all time.

I’ll drop this here to maybe help a few members get there light apart.

Racer has a blog post that’s in that thread with more detail.
Damping Grease for repacking the control ring.

This maybe the same grease also.

Fasttech is where I purchased mine years ago but they apparently don’t stock it anymore.
It’s under the brand name “XY2 Damping Grease”
Tmart looks like they have the same stuff

.
And please be careful when pulling the control ring off the head, there is 2 small magnets in the control ring that will fall right out if upside down. They are tiny and can be difficult to find if they hit the floor or stick to something with out you seeing them. I took mine apart last night and almost forgot about them. Luckily when I felt them fall down beside my leg I knew exactly what it was. :person_facepalming:

As for Modding the current, all I have every done is change the sense resistor. I think stock its a .150 ohms, I have replaced it with a .100 ohms.
I never checked the before and after so I don’t know what it gained. I have tried to figure this driver out but never have. This post gives no detail to what exactly he did to get to 2 amps but list the 3 components he changed.

I have seen post where Vinh modded these lights to 2.8 amps but no one has ever let the secret out on what needs to be done.

Another old school feature of this light that some of us find appealing is the mechanical forward clicky switch. These things do momentary blinks in a way most modern lights can’t match (since they generally use reverse clickys to do modes).

Boring a V10/11R out to use 18xxx batteries has been mentioned, but I wouldn’t count on being able to get away with it. The body/tube/adapter wall thickness underneath the O-ring groves is already only about 1mm on the ones I’ve measured, so a ~2mm bore job could make a mess of the light.

It’s the magnetic control ring. There are 2 types, one is mode, the other is infinitely variable. This is the infinitely variable type.

Very practical in real life, fast to use, and also it’d be a fun toy.

But the most important variable is that it’s cheap.

The XM-L is not the latest/most efficient emitter out there, but driven at just approx 500 lumens, it doesn’t really matter much in terms of heat or battery consumption.

I have seen post where they successfully bored V10Rti and V11R. It has to be bored to perfection, the slightest bit off and oops, you now have a hole in your light with a very thin wall. I have never tried to bore either one because of the risk factory to such a expensive good light.
If Sunwayman would only make this light again maybe 2 mm wider to use a 18350 and a updated led on copper with more output, I think they’d have a good seller on their hands. Just my opinion.

You guys can easily make a nice triple.

If you have the right tools.....unlike me

This is what I did a while ago : https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/33424

Wow……can it take 14500?

Yes! 14500 and AA

Mine arrived today.

I don’t have a battery at the office so can’t check it yet, but it looks like the real thing. Complete with the alternate titanium button the early version V11Rs came with.

I’m impressed. For $19 this was an amazing deal.

Got mine too, everything is good! Glad I jumped in! Now to play around with it a little bit before maybe bumping up the current just a little…

I would love to hear more about how to do this

Ha, I just got it and already replaced the XM-L2 cool white for a XP-L Hi 3A tint, Love it! A good thing is that it came with absolutely no glue on any of the threads I opened it up using just my fingers…

… do you need my address?
