Firstly, is there a budget “Swiss Army Knife” of torches? Something that has more functionality than just light emission? I know some lights have SOS or strobe modes, and the lovely Moonlight mode, but are there lights that have compasses, match/striker compartments, chemical lights (think glow tube), paracord-wrapped bodies, EPIRB beacons, sporks, etc built into them?
And regarding flashlight mods… what are the most moddable budget flashlights? Anything with a choice of drop in emitters, drivers, cells, bezels, bodies, number and size of cells, tailcaps, switches, finishes, etc in a single budget flashlight?
And finally, does a driver exist that can adapt to any common voltage or current? (ie: a 1D cell light with a 3AA battery holder containing 3AAA cells inside of AAA->AA converters)
Thanks in advance.
P.S. Yes… I’ve probably watched too many Inspector Gadget episodes and James Bond movies…
Indeed!
But multi-functiin tools have their place. I agree that single-use items often do their job better than multi-tools, yet people carry and use multimeters, swiss army knives, smart phones and leatherman tools everyday.
Some lights have a strike bezel you can use to break glass. Sometimes a glass breaker is on the tail cap. Hopefully never have to use it. Auto windows are designed to break from the inside, in case your trapped.
You can use a 3aa adapter with a D kight if you use a parallel wired carrier the voltage is still 1.5 volt. There are lights that are dual voltage can take aa or 14500 lithium and the convoy x3 can take 18650/26650 lithium or 3aa carrier. As stated above there are some expensive lights that have other functions. I prefer to have a dedicated combat knife, a leathermen for tools and a small waterproof pouch for fire starting needs. Bic lighters are great. Even if they get wet will work when dried out and last decades in storage if not exposed to high heat there is a pressure relief valve for the fuel. A zippo has its place, the fuel will leak out over w few weeks. But in a emergency you can use rubbing alcohol, gas, lighter fluid (charcoal) just about anything flammable a zippo can use as fuel
Just yankin ur chain. Leatherman’s are certainly nice. Have one in the glove box of my truck that never gets used. Haven’t found a use for it, but it’s there in case I need it someday.
Or maybe something better like mine:
I’m sorry I have only this poor photos, because the battery of my digital camera is out of service :person_facepalming:
In tools like that, you can find a small 5mm led; nothing special, nothing like a real flashlight but in a dark room it do the job.
But, the most cool thing is that every tool is with linear lock!
The quality of mine is so so, but if you like it maybe you can choose something better (more money need )
Bye!!!
I like it))
And the other day I saw the most expensive Swiss knife. Something in the neighborhood of $10,000. I think this flashlight and the knife would definitely become friends.
The MecArmy X7S is a attempt at such a gadget. I gifted one to a family member, mid 2018. It has held up very well. I used a coupon at the time of purchase that put it in a more realistic price range.
