Test / Review: "Himax 2600" 18650 batteries from "pingyi.co.ltd" on eBay (very poor results)

I will have a better comment on the voltage drop when i do my own test.

I said it right about Pingyi, I feel my cells are new Samsung but something is not right about the Sony cell mixed in. This is the trust issue i have.

-Shane

Yes and no,
All i was trying to say is thats not how Samsung did there testing to come up with the numbers. My bigger concern it the Sony cell mixed in.

Great, you have me worried about the last batch of 6 HiMax batteries I got from Pingyi
So I pulled one out of a torch and took it apart

No writing of any kind whatsoever on it.
I’m guessing I wasted a perfectly good $6.50 battery

Or these one

@ Troop, not wasted. You can buy shrink wrap tubing from any electronics/electrical supplier. Get some the right size, cut off the right length and apply enough heat with a heat gun to re shrink wrap it. It will probably bet a bit thicker and better than the cheezy shrink wrap these cells come with from the factory.

Why you think you wasted it when you can easily wrap it with some tape…

So far so good on the ones I got yesterday. They all charged to around 4.13 volts.

YOu have hobby charger to test them?

Nice to see you here Shane, welcome to BLF!

The HiMax batteries I bought from you on 7/2012 are still going strong and giving the rated capacity, some are even giving a little more than the rated capacity after several charge cycles.

Hope you sort things out with the manufacturer.

No, but I do have a very good multimeter in the Innova 3320.

This will explain it all.

I got this email from PingYi. Here’s what he told me and sent me to prove his case about this whole mess here.

We have the results of the survey, our batteries are all brand new and good, with samsung core.and the BBS post are our competitors, who want to destroy our company’s reputation, he is a Chinese, not American, intentionally destroy our brand, please don’t believe liar, here is a details, see email attachments.

thanks again, and your positive will be a great encouragement for us. If there’s anything I can help with, don’t hesitate to tell me.best wishes and have a nice day!

regards,
from pingyi.co.ltd

And here’s the picture he sent me that you can clearly see in post 30 here if you go back in look.

Now we know the rest of the story.

Interesting, but what about the other users who reported problems?

All I know is that some here I don’t think even know how to truly use their hobby charger or equipment. Most of the majority of folks that have these batteries like them. Mine all checked out good after charging and were right at 4.12 volts. They are working fine for me. Samsung makes some good batteries. Yes there are better batteries to be had, but you will also pay more for them typically.

ILF, I'm not sure what that picture is supposed to prove? It could be Ronald Regan's photo for all I can tell. As to your cells all charging to 4.12v, what does that prove as well? I have cheap UltraFire cells that all charge consistently to 4.2v, but they are still crap batteries. A DMM is not going to tell you that it's a good cell. Only what the voltage is.

I will still buy Hi-Max cells from Shane, as I believe he is going to test his cells in the future and I think he's a good and honest dealer. I'm not sure about buying from other sources, however. Nothing I've seen here from multiple sources inspires my confidence

Now I really dont understand what to make of it. Ididnt test all of my cells yet (only 4 of 12), but all have voltage drop to 3,5V in one minute or so…
SO thats nothing like results from HKJ’s original review of these cells. WOuld pingyi care to explain that? Im more than opet to all explanations.

HKJ recently did new review and now his results are little worse (but not as bad as my results - thats also mistery to me… and I doubt in all, me, HKJ, pingyi, my equipment, etc  )

Here’s review from another member, of old himax (I mean older review), and curve is nothing like my (3,8V after 30 mins - thats why I bought these batts…)

This is from new review of HLJ, and they are still far above my measurements… 3,85V after 30 mins.
Zhats still science fiction for me because, as I said, I continually get 3,5V after only 1 minute or so (or even before).

SO, I dont know want to think abiut the but I wont by them until I make sens of it.

On same equipment I also test trustfire flames and some other cells and they have same or better voltage sag… I mean, if we presume the fault is in equipment, why get very smililar resultrs with TF flames (and these cells supposedly have much treater coltage sag…)

And results by his guy, for wich pingyi claims is a scammer, are similar to my results Test / Review: "Himax 2600" 18650 batteries from "pingyi.co.ltd" on eBay (very poor results)

These middle curves.
Or there is possibility that there is nothing wrong with our equipment, but pingyi sends one kind of himax for regular customers, and other kind (not so good quality) to new customer for whom he hopes wont test them.

That would be an answer for so much differen results, and it wouldnt be some big surprise to me…

Even big companies, vry known do that - send better qualite product in western Europe, for example, and bad quality (but same product, same trademark) to Eastern Euope.

COrrection: they are consistently (just testing 5th cel) between 3,5V and 3,6V after 60 secs of discharging with 1A.

SO thats cant be some mistake, They are all same cells. (Same overpaid cells :o )

Second correction - curves of this guy from the link above are 2,5A, but they seem the same as my results 1A

So, is there any consensus on these cells? Is it better to buy from one seller or another and which one, or should we just buy something else?

Cb, look out for torchy the battery boy (big_f_d_d) on eBay, he’s now doing his own branded cells as well as recognizable brands. They seem to be very very good and they come from Glasgow so get to us in Lancashire pretty quick. He’s also a member here, who has posted some reviews, but has not yet posted up about his own cells. I have four, plus some 27650 cells that look identical to king Kong’s that are at a good price with a tr-006 charger.

Yeah I would be interested in those if not the double price…

Cheers, I’ll have a look.
