The LEP Flashlights discussion thread - discuss LEPs here

A lens cloth wouldn't be a bad idea!

Yep, those rings are visible.

Nice review, that LA60 is really impressive, if the wide beam was more even without the brighter edge ring I would jump on it. It’s the only LEP versatile enough to be used as a regular thrower.

anyone tried this one? $30 lep. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002917038174.html

I do not believe the White laser thing in this one. First they claim 800 lumen, while the current modules go up to 500, second, the price can not be right, third this picture from the ad shows the actual flashlight and it makes a square hotspot :person_facepalming: .

The WP3 also seems to be performing really well in Turbo mode!

But it also has pretty horrible PWM in low and high.

I think LEP technology is really interesting & are glad we have the option to purchase LEP’s. But given there limited scope of application has anyone found a great use for their LEP that supersedes a regular thrower? Signalling perhaps?

Incredibly useful on a boat. I have always used zoomed or fiixed aspheric throwers on the water. Lights with spill destroy your night vision because of back scatter on mist and fog.

looks like its an osram led, probably build for over driven performance and not longevity? seller also states 1500m is not an exaggeration, i guess with a larger head lens than c8+ this type of performance may be possible.

from above:
“…has anyone found a great use for their LEP that supersedes a regular thrower?”

1. astronomy. show a child exactly where to look.
2. trespassing warning. throwers dilute over same distance.
3. tech knowledge. get on the ground floor with the future.

Number 1 is great, I am going to try that right now with the contellation app on my phone. Maybe a regular laser is better though? I only have a uv laser and it’s inside.

yes.
a GREEN laser is the best.
however, an LEP will work well enough.

Here's the WP3 review: https://1lumen.com/review/astrolux-wp3/

Here's the graph, with all the other big-heads :D

Added the numbers for the WP3 to the OP as well

It sustains turbo pretty well. Mateminco told me it’s using a boost driver. Maybe it uses boost for turbo and PWM for lower modes. Seems like their recent lights suffer from high parasitic drain. Wonder why they can’t fix this. At least it’s not too bad though at under 1ma.

But still, outperforming the LA60 by the 30 min mark is quite impressive! Just have to pack some more batteries in the boat trip!
Very impressed by that 30-60 min sustained power for 170usd. (Got it on a coupon I guess)

Are thre any pocket size LEP on the market(18650, 12-13 см length)? E -switch is preferable.

You mean like this? Lumintop Thor 1 review | Mini LEP Flashlight with 18350 battery | 1Lumen.com

He also modded together a 100w (300w electric, 30% efficiency) handheld Lazer. That one was crazy! We start to talk weapon grade there! Concentrated, it melts glass…

Yes, but powered by 18650, and may be with e-switch in the sake of dimension decreasing.

Well, maybe the bigger brother Thor 2 then?

Got my wp3 yesterday, hot damn, that beam of light! Scary stuff! But oh so fun!

I have a 4tool L10 at 15cm length which is already pretty small for a 18650 LEP light (and relatively cheap, and it performs well at 460kcd), although I think if they had put some effort in it, it could have been made 15mm or so shorter.
Freeme has a thread+code for it.
