The Notice "Sony do not manufacture VTC4/5 18650 Battery" is 100% Wrong

Someone like “Batterybro”And “PowerStream” give notice that Sony do not manufacture VTC series.

It is 100% wrong information

Sony always manufacture VTC series until now .However ,The manufactured factory in Singapore

What they meant was sony no longer produces the VTC which probably was true when the letter was written, not that the VTC series is being made by a manufacturer other than sony.

Those emails are nonsense.
Sony , LG… do not want their unprotected cells to be sold to general public.
Unprotected cells are made to be used only with appropriate protection circuitry (battery packs, etc…)
Sony never stopped with VTC series, they just don’t want you to use unprotected Sony cells.
With so many incidents in vaping community involving 18650 unprotected cells everything make sense.
Wait until you see new 18650 batch from LG, and what is printed on them.

This is a reason batteries are sold by re-sellers and not the manufacturers.

18650 unprotected is not made for individual use. Manufacturers are very clear about that.
Now with many vaping mods pushing beyond any 18650 Amp limits safety is in great risk.

In the next 12 months we will see much less unprotected cells sold online.
Sony is already sending letters to many online stores to stop selling VTC series.

LG will go step further in upcoming months.

After this video (and many other incidents) manufacturers will try to prohibit sales of individual unprotected cells (unfortunately)

Exactly,

That is what I am talking about.

LG is next.

I like this part “Sony titbium-ion ”

This is all about product liability claims, and which is one reason why lawyers make such big incomes. :frowning:

‘Inherent Vice’

“Hidden defect (or the very nature) of a good or property which of itself is the cause of (or contributes to) its deterioration, damage, or wastage. Such characteristics or defects make the item an unacceptable risk to a carrier or insurer. If the characteristic or defect is not visible, and if the carrier or the insurer has not been warned of it, neither of them may be liable for any claim arising solely out of the inherent vice.”

I wonder what will be Samsung next move.
They forgot about 18650, because of headache called Galaxy 7

They do not know what the heck is wrong with it  or they just have studied business law dictionary….

The problem with Samsung is a ‘Top Down’ power structure; even if an employee with lower status knew of a specific problem, he or she would lack the structure as a subordinate to communicate it to a person above. :frowning:

Very true.

Oh, that was OCR. it was so good that I thought it is from Sony rep.

400% inflated Amps are what will make damages, don’t forget that

This is a big problem, but who is responsible for the information on the wrapper?

Seller who is knowingly selling them to naive vapers ( flashlight users are not in big trouble - Yet)

Seller who doesn’t know shouldn’t sell batteries at all.

What's the hell is this sheesh?

Reputed manufacturers chickening out because of retarded legal systems possibly wanting to blame 'em if cases of morons blowing up their asses with their batteries arise? Sorry but that won't stop people from dealing with their products, it can only make the situation worse (as usually happens with fear based reactions).

Sorry but we also make the laws, and we should be made ourselves heard. Manufacturers should explicitly tell customers they won't be held liable of any crap with regards to the misuse of their products. Hell, you know a lot of jackass rewrappers use lower grade cells from the big ones and stamp outrageous spec figures on “their” products. Check this out for example:

MXJO Yellow 30A 2900mAh 18650 Bench Test Results...a preposterously overrated 10A/2700mAh battery @ E-Cigarette Forum

If you are a dumbass you're the only liable one behind your dumbassness. So stop fighting and start loving and learning. There's no excuse.

Cheers ^:)

You are right , but only 0.001 % will get your message.

You should know that 18650 batteries (unprotected) are not manufactured to be sold to the public. That is one reason you will never be able to buy them in Walmart or any retail chain….

Maybe we should start a Union of Informed Battery Users and demand our rights as adults.

You will never see Panasonic, Sony, LG, Samsung bare cells in Walmart.

Cells under different name, sure, why not.

I think Westinghouse have their 18650 cells.
I do not know what cells they are using.

It is not the end of the world.
Calm down, and enjoy this forum.

I have no intention to argue with you, really.
Have a wonderful day, and keep using Li-ion batteries from reputable manufacturers like rest of us.

In the scheme of the many things in today’s news our battery concerns seem petty.

Between our concerns and and manufacturers this problem will be solved. Already some manufacturers are selling flashlights with batteries already installed with a safety film over the positive terminal.

What I hope not to see is an increase in propitiatory batteries being sold with new flashlights. :frowning:
