The There Are No Stupid Questions Thread

Hi, everyone! Long time no see … like 6 Years, wow, my “no stupid question” is How does one come back to BLF after such a long hiatus? WOW! Amazing that this thread took off, gives the warm and fuzzies to have been able to contribute something useful. Time to figure out how hard it is to convert a BLF GT (wow it went up in price, group buy then was like $111) into a GT70 solder station underway!

Thank you for your reply, INeedMoreLumens. :+1:

Yes, the driver has a LDO to reduce the voltage. Your idea is good but I have Anduril 1 on this driver and I’m not sure which version of Anduril 2 would be suitable. Also, I’m not sure if +0.30V is enough.

I thought maybe there would be a way to disable LVP in Anduril. With four batteries in series it is useless anyway. I don’t know how the driver measures those 3.2V that the battery check displays.

Low drain batteries can work in powerhouse flashlights in a pinch, but just don’t drive them too hard. Ultimately as Mandrake said, best to invest in a capable battery that’ll let you safely get the flashlight to realize its potential.

What is the easiest and safest method to unscrew screw-in bezels (lens holders?) like in the FireFly L70 below? Also is anyone aware if there are any TIRs that would fit this light?

You can use this part of calipers.

Not the safest method though. If bezel is aluminum one this will likely leave some dents. Steel bezels are gonna be ok.

You monster! These are precision measuring instruments that you violently abuse! Shame on you.

Yeah, while unscrewing the bezel you also get its precise size.
Win-Win.

Thanks for the suggestion! Though I couldn’t find my crappy set of steel calipers, while looking I found an aluminum ruler that turned out the perfect width to unscrew that particular bezel :D. So keeping with the measurement device theme at least

Here is what I use to unscrew bezels. It helps that it is adjustable. Note that this doesn’t typically work on driver retaining rings but it is great for bezels.

Anyone know where can i get WK04 that has shipping to balkan?

The watch case thingy is a great idea, might get something like that just in case I might need it in the future

Is there any light that has UV AUX or UV moonlight capable?

Thanks. I have what looks like an identical one from AE. I did a little mod to it: the two prongs aren’t exactly at the same height due to the design so I swapped out one of the washers to fix that. I also filed down one of the pieces so the prongs can move closer together (I think I had to do this to get it to fit the Sofirn HS10).

Will a round aluminium heatsink be better at heat dissipation?
Trying to think of cons to using one as head beside scratched hands and torn clothes

Some sandblasting and a bit of black paint (or anodizing) and you’re good to go!
